Omega General Help / lots of lights
« on: 01 May 2007, 21:52:38 »
Further assistance required please....driving home tonight car again felt lumpy and running uneven..as in speed restriction kept to 50mph but revs going from 2500-3000 and back again..when accelerated after road works eml came on again..slowed down and car eventually died..pulled over to hard shoulder to see if anthing falen off..all intact so tried to start car..thank heavens it did and off i went again albeit like a kangaroo..shortly after dash display flashed up "automatic gearbox" and then gearbox warning light on dash came on and stayed alight..again stopped ..looked and started up..managed to get home although car had vertually no acceleration and at 2500 revs barley doing 30 mph...got home and flashed up fault codes..they are as follows:
73..unsure if this is from earlier fault..have checked all plugs and leads..all sound/tight
22..this states "throttle sensor"..should I buy a new one ???
19..this is a new one today..crank sensor..again should I buy a new one??
assuming these are replaced will car drive as should ..or are these codes just telling me another problem exists..up until yesterday car drove/accelerated and ticked over like a 2.5 v6 elite should ..help please

Omega General Help / original factory trim
« on: 27 April 2007, 08:03:03 »
can anybody help with this one...how can you identify what level of trim( i.e leather seats)would have been originally fitted to my car ...1998 2.5 elite...it has black leather recaro front seats with side air bags..only electric up/down..heated..(but only passenger side works)..back seats are leather but the pattern seams slightly different..these would seem to be also heated but as yet cannot get them to work......the reason for the question is that am trying to identify if it has undergone major refurb work..all door cards are leather so could be cosher but want to be sure ...original owner bought and stored for 2 years as was collecter so cannot trace history back..also slightly concerned that all the wiring for rear heated seats seems to be disconnected as when i lift out seat pad lots of wire connecters but nothing seems to be plugged in??..would be nice to get it all working as original

Omega General Help / air vent illumination
« on: 20 April 2007, 09:58:38 »
can anyone tell me how to replace the bulbs in the centre front air vent grilles on a 1998 elite saloon..have managed to replace both side vent illuminations but would be nice if centre ones were illuminated aswell...assuming it does not involve a total dash removal as seems too much effort for 60p bulbs

Omega General Help / v6 multi ram connector
« on: 08 April 2007, 17:25:56 »
Thought I had got multiram plug sorted, but driving home this afternoon eml came on again....after checking it seemed that the multiram connector that I thought I had pushed on had fallen off....as the engine was hot decided to drive home slowly and let it cool down and then try and fit it back again....my question is ?if the car runs fine with it disconnected what is its purpose??and will driving the car with it disconnected have any detrimental effect???just I am no mechanic and as car is off to mechanics on Tuesday for the third set of cam cover gaskets and new covers could I leave it until then as it seems that it might be easier for him to refit it when partially dismanteld

Omega General Help / uncomfortable seats
« on: 06 April 2007, 21:03:35 »
Does anybody else find the leather recaro seats hard and uncomfortable...have just bought no 3 omega ..this one is elite and has recaro leather seats fitted..they have thigh support extensions which after a while seem to make your legs go numb and the seat pad and side supports are not a pleasure to sit on...had old style fabric seats before in my cdx and remember could drive for hours and feel fine when got out of car..but these ???just wondering if any one else had comments...as seriously thinking about exchanging them for either standard leather type or fabric...any swaps out there??

Omega General Help / leather heated rear seats
« on: 04 April 2007, 13:28:42 »
Just a question..1998 elite..have recently bought and was wondering why rear seats were not heating despite switch illuminating..pulled out rear reat leather cushion and noticed several plug connecters and what appeared to be 2 wires with gold spade connecters..further investigation found that other connecter female plugs again not connected..whaen tried to join they seemed to be different sizes..my question is ...did GM change the plug connecters  as I am now wondering if car originally had leccy seats or were these retro fitted..the switches in rear console look original..other strange thing now I think about it is front seats are MV6 recaro leather but only have standard up/down controls..drivers seat heater does not work (but that seems to be normal  )passenger seat heater does work..is it possibel to get the original factory spec from chassis /vin number?

Omega General Help / not an april fool
« on: 01 April 2007, 08:58:02 »
hi everyone...this is not an april fool although you may think that i am !!!driving home last night along motorway..well should i say crawling through speed cameras..when i put my foot down felt a bit of a jult ...but no noise..car then acceleratedand seemed to be fine??as really sunny didn,t notice that engine managment light had come on so after a few miles pulled over and as a good vauxhall driver stopped engine.got out and checked under car but no fluid etc..nothing fallen off under bonnet..so thought would it start again...to my surprise it fired up ..ran smoothly but light stayed on ....as had 30 miles to get home drove slowish but all seemed to run fine ...when at home switched off and again checked everything visible but no evidence of problems......later started car again and she fired into life and settled down to an even tickover as allways.....took out for another short drive to see if problem was still there....all runs fine but light is still on.......now yes i know that light has come on to register that a fault has occured and has been stored in brain..my question is .....as i need to drive about 100 miles today will i be doing any damage???have arranged for electrical fault man to put on meter on monday which i assume will indicate the fault registered ..or is the best action ..Orange light Don,t drive??seems odd as is running perfectly...had fault reading before when wouldn,t run and that was MAF meter..any pointers would be helpfull

Omega General Help / THE DREADED LEAKY CAM COVERS..V6
« on: 28 March 2007, 15:44:29 »
Can any body give me some advise regarding the dreaded cam covers ..just had both sets of gaskets replaced together with "o"rings and the vauxhall sealant,by my local mechanic..who does a good job....after less than a week am getting the kebab shop smell again and smoke appearing  from under the bonnet on drivers side..you can just see a very small trace of oil which seems to be dripping onto the manifold and burning off....this was the very problem I had when car went to garage.....it has now been suggested that the rocker covers could be warped and will need to be replaced...my garage man has said he will do the work free of charge ..but I must buy the covers as he could not be liable for them...when I rang Vauxhall they have quoted £70=00 each side plus vat...not cheap ahh....could anybody throw some light onto the reality that these do warp and is the price correct for what seems to be just plastic...or is there a cheaper way out of this as second hand would seem pointless with the work involved to find still leaking..thanks guys and await any help and advise...andrew(mobile kebab shop )

Newbie Welcome Area / THE DREADED LEAKY CAM COVERS..V6
« on: 28 March 2007, 10:57:47 »
Hi everyone....just got onto my 3 omega and despite all the usual problems with the previous 2(oil coolers/heater matrixes/steering arms etc)still love these cars to bits..seem to have a problem which cannot resolve and wonder if anybody else has needed to resort to this.....I have now replaced both rocker gaskets and "o" rings with genuine ??vauxhall bought gaskets toghether with the black sealant, but inspite of doing this job several times before and the result has been fine I now cannot seem to stop either side from weeping oil..it has been suggested that the rocker covers should be replaced as they could be distorted..could this be correct as they are only plastic and whilst I have been very carefull not to over tighten bolts they still are leaking...vauxhall have now quoted £70=00 +vat for each cover..but you do get the gasket set with each..typical vauxhall though you have to buy the "o"rings again.....any help or pointers would be great...nothing is trapped and breathers are all cleaned...andrew
