Omega General Help / Oil On Diff Cover Plate
« on: 04 August 2015, 17:39:23 »
Whilst I was checking out the site of the busted rear O/S spring earlier today,I noticed quite a build up of oil on the rear diff.

Now having the rear diff pinion seal fail on my previous Elite I knew the area wasnt the same here as oil was only on the bottom part of the diff body/cover plate and slight marks around the drive shaft entry points.

As I need to drop the diff to remove/replace springs I intended removing the cover plate and renewing the diff oil as I half way there anyway and have diff oil etc from previous job.

Is it only really likely to be a failing seal on the cover plate causing this oil sepage or do the drive shaft seals fail
albeit the pattern of the oil leads me to believe its comimg from the bottom. Its definitly not rear pinion seal though

General Discussion Area / M20 rubbish
« on: 02 August 2015, 17:19:40 »
Had to drive down M20 this morning ,thankfully the "lorry park" has gone ..well for the time being . :-\

Can honestly say its a disgrace the rubbish/plastic bottles (no doudt used as toilets) and every other imaginable item of rubbish left on the hard shoulder and central reservation.

Yes I do feel sorry for the lorry drivers being stuck there for hour on end ,but somebody should of made them take their rubbish away. Its bad enough every mile or so having a DavLav adding to the scenery of Kent, but the rubbish is quite disgraceful.More money on the clearup to be added to the taxes in Kent I expect >:(

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Brake Wear Indicator
« on: 23 July 2015, 21:38:06 »
On last front pad change about 5k ago decided that for the cost and likely damage to fitting yet another brake wear sensor I would join the wires together to bypass .

Cut wires about 6 inch from sensor plug and stripped/spldered and heat shrunk all together the replugged wired loop back into main loom.Since then have had no issues with any warning lights so all good.

Over the last few days every time I start car get wear sensor warning flash up and needs clearing by pushing radio button. This will sometimes stay off for the rest of the journey ,other times it will come back after 10 minutes or so and require clearing yet again.

Today removed wheel to check all still inplace.Wired loop still inplace and plug is still joined so removed again and gave both sockets a clean.Started car again and within a few minutes warning on again.

Is there a relay/fuse that can be removed to completely dissable this ?

I have decided to part with my MFL Irmscher wood effect steering wheel .This supports audio buttons which along with air bag are not included in the sale although your cars originals are a straight swop over.

Wheel was fully refurbished to original OEM condition by professional off this forum about 3 years ago and hasnt been on the car for past 2 years so is almost as new and in this condition almost impossible now to find.

Being an IT Novice I am unable to post pictures on the forum, so if interested please PM your email addy and I will forward as soon as can.

Looking for £135 + postage which would be recorded by courier of your choice so expect another £10/£12 ontop.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / HID Headlights
« on: 14 July 2015, 17:55:00 »
Just in the process of refurbishing a pair of hid headlights with ali adjusters and a good clean of both sides of the lenses.

Came to rebuild lights and have 2 questions.

1)..The lever for continental driving. On the lamp body there is a L and R stamped indicating the podition of the metal lever .Does that correspond to the driving side ..I/E.. " L" is for England as we drive on the Left  or " R " as car is RH drive.Never had cause to move lever before as always used sticky headlight things.

2)..One of the fixing lugs has snapped and will require glueing to fix. What is the best glue for this type of plastic/abs.

Thanks guys :y

General Car Chat / Replacing A/C Condensor
« on: 07 July 2015, 20:19:28 »
After getting "wild " prices for replacing the leaking A/C Condensor on daughters 2008 Fiesta 1.4TDCI ,I have been asked to do the job as looking through web it doesnt appear a job beyond me however I do need several bits of advise.

1 )..when I replace the condensor I assume I need to replace both 0 rings that seal the 2 pipes. Are these main dealer only ?
2 )..says 0 rings should be lubricated with PAG 100 oil ,but for the small amount required can only find £15/£20 bottles which I assume is for the mixture with refrigerant.
3 )..can anybody confirm if the Fiesta MK6 has a drier in the system ..found mention of an accumulator but cannot find part..assume this would also need 0 rings and lube to seal them.

When fitted will get recharge done at local place as that will ensure all is sealed up and also help her keep costs to a minimum.

General Car Chat / MK 6 TDCI Fiesta
« on: 05 July 2015, 17:38:30 »
Youngest daughter has complained for the last week or so that A/C is working as expected and with grand-daughter in car concerned about heat.

Had a look this morning and the compressor wasnt engaging so suspect low,or empty of gas,so told her to get it checked by local speedy fit place. In fairness they did a pressure test and confirmed condensor leaking and needed to be replaced ,but they couldnt give price until morning when supplier opened, but imagined £150/£200 for parts and 4 hours labour so "wont be cheap"

As my intention was never to of used them to replace decided to do search for new condensor and best price was around £90 delivered, so that the route we will go and me fit it and get them to regas after replacement.

What I need to know is like the Omega ,will a Fiesta have a seperate drier located elsewhere as need to factor that cost in aswell.

Omega General Help / Crank Sensor Replacement
« on: 09 June 2015, 08:28:37 »
Oil leak has been traced to CS not sealing to block and after further investigation it appears CS fitted is a poor pattern part with no sealing ring and cant be tightened to block, despite it giving no issues with operation.

On advise only solution to cure oil leak is a replacemnet CS with a genuine GM part which I will order later today.I have replaced several over my years of Omega ownership but usually during larger srtip downs so access never an issue.

Question is can CS be replaced by removing plenum/inlet or is it better to remove wipers and scuttle ? as I have a totally watertight scuttle and have avoided any removal of it in the past .

Advise welcomed please :y

Omega General Help / Rear Track Rods
« on: 21 May 2015, 21:59:05 »
Had new tyres fitted today and 4 wheel alignment done. The rear track arms were very seized and despite efforts of garage to adjust withme them almost "lunar red" they wouldnt budge.

Not a magor issue with alignment as it was almost spot on ,but me being me like almost to be exact so have ordered a pair of rear track rods so we can get almost to spot on.

Just wanted to understand that its only undo the mounting nuts and remove and replace.Naturally 1 side at atime so the new rods can be set to the same length as originals before final adjustment with machine.

Omega General Help / P0420/0430 Codes
« on: 24 March 2015, 12:00:35 »
Starting to get fed up constantly needing to erase above fault codes which has become progressively worse over the last month or so.Would come on maybe once a week, but now is almost daily despite only running car on Premium unleaded and even adding a bottle of cataclean to see if that would work.

Question raised are is this the impending death of both catalytic converters as both banks 1 and 2 will throw up codes or could this be the lambda sensors ending their life..or both ?

I assume cats are original so 12/13 years old but had read they will last/work for 30+ years with no adverse effects assuming no overfueling or contamination which I am pretty sure has happened with my cars engine in the past.

Do I just bite the bullet and buy 2 new cats and 4 sensors and hope that resolves it or can their be a more accurate diagnosis so only the faulty parts are replaced.

Assume having the back lambdas moved to " after the rear cat " could work however is this a definitve solution or wont that resolve the problem if faults elsewhere and that is not a DIY job so would require further assistance on that .

Omega General Help / Hit the Red !!
« on: 17 March 2015, 14:15:08 »
Odd thing happened with temperature gauge on way to London  this morning.Pulled off M20 and temp gauge was in the red and red thermostat was displayed although car had been running perfectly cruising at mid 70,s.

Pulled over and stopped to check what had let go  :o but found no evidence of any coolant leak and reservoir was at level ,all hoses etc intact and no steam or evidance of any leak.Started car and gauge showed it had gone down to 90/95 so continued journey now in slow moving traffic.Gauge did move up slightly towards high 90,s but didn,t go much higher. On way home after car being parked for 1 hour or so again temp gauge moved between mid to high 90,s but no further. When got home checked and all fans are working as they should and with a/c off temp hits mid 90,s then both front fans come on ,larger fan nearest engine is also running as it should.

Oddest thing is for the last year or so temp has never ever gone above 90 even on the hottest days of last summer,so what today would of caused a near 5 degree temp change .

For info the thermostat and water pump were both replaced last year along with a full coolant flush and heater works as expected .

General Discussion Area / Bit Of Legal Advise Please
« on: 06 March 2015, 08:21:45 »
Yesterday my wife received an offical looking set of paperwork advising her she was being taken to court for non payment of an alleged parking contravention at our local supermarket.

It was accompanied by a form N1 laying out the reasons for the claim that she had overstayed the agreed 2 hour time slot and her details had been recorded on automatic time elapse number plate camera. It went onto to advise that this was classified as trespass and as overstaying the agreed time etc would be a breach of contract etc etc.It was issued by a crowd called Debt Enforcement and Action Ltd and was for £215 being the charge as not paid within there 14 days + legal costs and court fees. The court papers advise that these must be returned within 14 days as failing that the court may pass judgement against her without any defence.

The letter was deliverd by standard postage and not recorded and to the best of our knowledge we can never remember ever receiving any previous paperwork relating to this  so needless to say she is somewhat concerend and is now just considering paying the £215 and calling an end to it.

After reading it very very carfeully I seem to of found a glaring mistake and am wondering if this should now be our defence and should try taking them to the cleaners and employing the services of a solicitor and counterclaiming the costs involved for their legal advise.
Reading through there report of the allegeded offence the date they have entered on the claim form is....01/01/1900... and states the vehicle was seen entering the carpark at 13.58 and leaving at 17.00.

This is obviously a mistake as being New Years Day some 115 years ago the carpark wasnt even there/Henry Ford hadnt even dreamt of building a Ford Fiesta nor had automatic cameras been invented so their error has probably got her off anyway but would the best course of action be as she is concerned that if we use this as our defence they might try and claim again with another date.

Any legal eagles advise warmly welcomed please :y
