Used nice creamy white header tanks can be acquired for less than the dealer price. Just to let you know, I think £15-20s to going rate for used but as-new looking ones  :)

Lurking in the back of my (failing) memory is the thought that I saw on here a technique/process for restoring the faded bottle to as-new condition.
Am I having a senior moment, or is it true?

No, youre not mistaken. Basically along the lines of gravel (or a similar abrasive) and some dishwasher tablets/washing powder inside, shake it about for several hours, let it stand for however long, and it comes up better. I tried to get some slight traces of gunk from the bottom of my otherwise super creamy white header tank, and it didnt shift it, so can't say how effective it would be as a method for cleaning a yellowed/sepia tank. But word on the OOF street is people have done it to good effect  :)

Somewhat bleedin obvious pont, but worth stating... you have to get all the stones out before you refit to the car... ::) Unless I state that someone will point out my omission  :y

Indeed, I didn't fancy the cleaning method. Against much OOF advice of the 'few quid' that a new one costs (as said, a whole 38 of those quids) I got an as-new one for a fiver from the scrappy, still with the hologram part number sticker on.  :)

Trouble with harsh cleaning agents is they seem to corrode the magnet, which means the sensor soon gives up.

I paid £50 for my new bottle and 5l of antifreeze a couple of weeks back. So guess bottle is around £35ish now
