nide trip to cleethorpes then drama
« on: 01 August 2017, 20:37:34 »

well had a nice drive to cleethorpes, no problems on the way up. parked up for 4 hrs, come back start engine, starts up rough running no engine light on, had a quick check and they only thing i could find is the timing adjuster has gone, so that was a lucky escape, would of done some damage if engine was running at driving conditions. belts fine but adjuster looks as the spring has gone, had tow truck out and he had a look and it just out by a bit and he said it looks fin just needs new belt and adjuster so on way home on the truck ordered new timing kit, belt adjuster rollers and pump so looks like i know what im doing this week end. just glad it did not go while on motorway must of missed the bullet.

well finally gotten round to taking the belt off as the weather ok, and yep the timing adjuster is gone, the back plate with new and old timing marks has snapped off, and looks like it had gone in between the belt and knocked it of just 1 sprocket, and cut the side off the belt, so very lucky, new belt kit should be here in the morning so hopefully its not raining or will have to fit it all on weekend.

well that was fun changing the timing kit, get the new bet on and its all done, start engine, running rough, so check timing again all still lined up. so take the spark plugs out and check the compression  , all 4 are good 170-psi, so checked the spark plugs, one that was in number one did not look right on the meter 4.95 K ohms resistance others 5.36 to 5.66 K ohms so just thought i would check to see if the diode setting would find a problem, and yep it did number one gives a reading of 980  and other don't, thought its a bit strange so checked the ignition coil and its got a crack on the fixing bolt next to number 1 and the seal all way round has come away from the filler thats was put in when made, so changed the coil with a spare one, ( no cracks etc ) put it all back together still problem so change the spark plug for number one and now running spot on,  just ordered a new set of spark plugs. tested the old coil and number one has gone on it no resistance at all in any K ohms different readings on other 3 what it should do, so how would a coil do that to a spark plug ? very strange. but any way its all running now and should be even better with new spark plug :)
