It looked ok in Moonstone grey, but Nantucket beige made the back of the saloon look like a moose's arse ;D

;D not at all, it simply helped it to blend in, especially with dark light lenses...

It was indeed a bit nondescript, but the answer was never going to be that hideous monstrosity bolted on the front.
Nondescript beats pig ugly any day in my book.  :)
Owning an X351 XJ, I've learnt to live with pig ugly.  If you can't see it from the drivers seat....

;D
Spoken like a true Scorpio driver ;D
Only I reverse arse first into parking spaces, whereas a Scorpio driver has to go in forwards. Just to ensure you don't catch a glance of the really ugly end ;D
Fixed... it never had a good side (or end) :D
I'm sure its designer had a soft spot. Clearly deranged, mind ;D
Fair enough. But it could have been stopped at any time during design/manufacturing, so it must have been a case of mass hallucination.  ;D

As a Granny owner for quite a few years the natural replacement would have been the Scorpio. BUT, it was soooo frickin ugly that i just couldn,t bring myself to get one, even though they look good inside. So i got a PFL Mig instead. :D. I even put up with a gay gold one. ;D

The Mk 1 - Ford Scorpio hatchback was, IMHO, a smart and versatile motor, with a decent amount of grunt with the 2.8 V6 engine, and was an excellent towcar for many years.

The Mk 11 - Ford Scorpio was an abomination, whoever thought up its "styling" (or total lack of it) should have been shot. Quentin Willson said in an episode of Top Gear in April 1997 that the "sad eyed Scorpio is so heroically ugly, it was obviously designed by Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder."

The Mk 3 - Ford Granada hatchback was, IMHO, a smart and versatile motor, with a decent amount of grunt with the 24v V6 engine, and was an excellent towcar for many years. Especially in Scorpio spec with heated electric leather all round. The saloon had an even bigger boot, but obviously not quite as practical.

The Ford Scorpio was an abomination regardless of spec, whoever thought up its "styling" (or total lack of it) should have been shot. Quentin Willson said in an episode of Top Gear in April 1997 that the "sad eyed Scorpio is so heroically ugly, it was obviously designed by Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder."

That said, my Dad replaced his '93 Granada Scorpio hatch with a mint, low mileage five year old S reg Scorpio Ultima estate... looks notwithstanding, a very nice, and equally capable car. He kept it nearly six years, only replacing it when the bodywork started looking shabby. the final straw being when the heater matrix exploded, finally rendering the thing scrap.

Fixed for accuracy ;)

Your "accuracy" differs from recorded reality ....  :)

You're confusing Wikipedia with reality :P

In Euroland the Mk 3 Granada was indeed known as the Scorpio...

In the Uk, however, the Scorpio was a trim level of the Mk3 Granada. The later Scorpio may or may not have been a Mk4 Granada... but it was a poorly rehashed Mk3 with a Mondeo style dash, designed to see off the imminent Omega B. Or not, as it turned out ::)
