And please keep sending me you thoughts and ideas please as over here they do like to do things by the book and belief  that's the only way you can do it , when I said to a Bulgarian mechanic about changing my diff for a different ratio one  here just looked gone out at me and after ten seconds just said crazy man and walked away .

The way to think about it is that changing to a 3.7 diff from a 3.45 will raise the RPM by 7.2% in every gear.

So, at a speed where you're cruising at 3,000 RPM, you'll now be doing 3220 RPM. It's about half of the difference between cruising in 4th and 5th gears.

If that seems acceptable, then it may be a way forward. Do check that your engine doesn't have a problem affecting performance first, though.

3.45, 3.7, 3.9, 4.22.

Ive already said which one I believe yours is and which one you should try and fit, assuming you can find one.

I've just noticed I am running on 16" wheels which the car came with and on the spec it says 15"  how much will this impact on the performance. Sorry yes I should have noticed this before .

But it shows that I'm leaning from you guys ..

might be useful, although that reflects later models sold into the UK market.

I believe the diff is the same between saloon and estate models, however, so that should widen your search a little. Manual 3.0 V6 cars had the 3.7 diff ratio, but I would imagine yours is likely to be the 3.45 which was exclusive to the diesel cars.

I understand the charts now, they make it alot Easyer to understand what the differed ratios change. Brilliant thanks

That page very clearly states "OmegaB X20DTH" 37:10 = 3.70

The 2 litre diesel will have slightly less torque than the 2.2 diesel so it makes perfect sense for the differential to have a slightly shorter gearing.

What does "ohne sperre" and "mit sperre" mean?

Edit "ohne sperre" and "mit sperre"  mean without/with limited slip differential.
I cannot see any reference to manual or automatic gearbox in that table (which puzzles me)
