In her position, having just given $300m over into the government coffers, I think I'd be employing someone full time to tell everyone to bugger off.

Why, did she have to pay tax on it? :o

I would just announce my good fortune to the world, and tell them that if they are thinking of sending begging letters etc. that they can all far cough.  :)

I don't understand why anyone would agree to publicity.  :-\

I'd want to stay anonymous and would disappear to a small island in the Pacific or Indian Ocean for a while!  :y

So if I go missing for a bit....   ::)  ;D

I would create a Charitable fundation, and put 250 million into it, and distribute the interest to worthy causes.
In my case I'd be looking at homelessness and provision of emergency acaccommodation.  I'd be talking to people about mental health, debt and homelessness.
I'd employ people to open all begging letters, and reply to them all sympathetically .

I'd insist they burn them in the winter, use it to get the kindling started.

Had she taken the full amount[payable in instalments over the next 29yrs :o]then she could have remained anonymous, however as she opted for a  "lesser" lump sum their rules state you have to waive anonymity.I don't know whether it still remains the case but previously if you won a prize[say a car or something]on a game show you had to pay the purchase tax before you could have the prize ??? So taking the lump sum then deducting federal tax and state tax she's walked away with "only" 336m. :D Hardly likely to see her in a dole queue anytime soon!
