On my new astra. Computer is telling me 41.8, brim to brim is telling me 36.9. That's quite a big fib.

Best to do it over a few fill ups, ie, dont reset the computer and keep track on your average fill ups.

Ive always found the Vauxhall MID type ones to on par with the actual, except (in my experience) the NCDC + GID/CIDs which Ive found can be far amount out normally reading a lot higher than actual.

My old Omega was spot on with the MPG computer the Merc is also very accurate, I would also advise to gauge it over a few fill ups.

Should have bought an Omega. If its doing 17mpg, the fuel computer will tell you its doing 17mpg.

Manufacturers like to be optimistic.

Drove the XFR down to Watford yesterday using mainly the A1 and M1.

Trip computer shows 30.6 MPG.

I've found the (unmolested) Omegas to be pretty accurate, certainly within 0.5mpg.  Which made the Jag's pack of lies unexplainable really.

I certainly wouldn't be impressed with 36.9 MPG from a derv Astra. Tunnie must be shaking his head in disbelief.

Perhaps the additional weight of wife and whippet is dragging it down.

Can't say I've seen 30's average ever out of the VW, but then again it's used for work and long runs up north. So always gets  a good long run.

However even leaving work, in stop start traffic fighting my way through to either the M3 or M25 it will still average 40.something average.

But then again mine is a manual

The engine is plenty big enough. FFS, they put an auto box on a weedy 1.6 petrol. A 2.0 diesel handles it nicely.

The engine is plenty big enough. FFS, they put an auto box on a weedy 1.6 petrol. A 2.0 diesel handles it nicely.

The put an Auto on the 1.4 Zaf Tourer 

2.0 diesel in any modern form is quite punchy and quick enough for most normal folk

Not bad then tbh. Autos in general at naff in town (dsg being the exception). 35 is probably about what the Volvo gets in town, which is why I never use it there  . The trip computer thing is odd though. Is there any way to adjust/recalibrate it?

Don't know, Jimmy, but as it's the first and last time I'll bother looking, it really doesn't matter.

I found the read out of the Senator and the Omega to be pretty much accurate and the V70's while not as accurate is pretty much there or thereabouts.

I get around 30mpg around town and about 45-50 on a long run in the insignia tourer 2.0 diesel and its manual to.

Must be filling up at your local Scouser Service Station where you get a US gallon and pay for a UK one.

41.8 / 4.546 x 3.785 = 35.5 so not so far out after all.
