There was once a spate of badge thefts from  Volkswagons in the 1980's due, if I remember correctly, a pop band using that symbol in their cult following.

Perhaps there is a secret cult who worship Vx badges

Same family of inbreds that stole the Griffen emblems off the Elite centre caps on mine last month .
There can't be more than a few Vauxhalls in this simple little country ,as they were sold as Opels , but they took two badges and left large gouges on the other caps when trying to prise them off .......

Funny you should say that as I have seen some Insignias without badges.  I searched on Google about this, and there are quite a few comments about this.  This are the comments on the Pistonheads Forum:
