Dented Sump and oil leak
« on: 21 September 2017, 13:02:32 »

Omega 3.2 Elite, 2003, 68000 miles.
Last weekend I ran over a silencer that had been dropped from a vehicle ahead at 60 mph.
A roadside check showed that the car was driveable so I took it home and the next day to a local garage that put it up on a lift for us the expect.
There are some marks and scuffs but the main problem is a dent in the sump.  It is not broken but the edge must have distorted slightly as there is a significant oil seepage at the edge.
A call to my Vauxhall main dealer evoked sympathy, but the part is no longer listed and therefore not available.  I've tried eBay and scrap yards but no luck.
Does anyone know what I could try to obtain one or do you know if a suitable workshop could restore its shape.  Or maybe a special sealing compound could fill the small gap?
I'm aware of the need to have 250 posts before requesting parts but I've been a member for 3 years and I'm desperate: it's a beautiful sample, owned from new, of a now rare model and I'd hate to have to write it off for the sake of a simple part!

dont worry this is a straightforward job to do and im sure there will be plenty of offers of a replacement s/h sump.luckily on the v6 the sump is in two sections. if you have just damaged the lower part it is held on with bolts around its edge and a level sensor inside. this is an ideal opportunty to remove and clean the oil pick up whilst its off as they have been known to get blocked up .mine did !. also be sure the dent isnt near the pick up pipe and hasnt bent it up at all.

May well be able to remove the sump, apply heat, and push / knock the dent out. Then refit with suitable sealant.
Although, if one becomes available, its easier to just replace it.

Thanks for help and advice so far.  Saved me a disappointment as I found a part on eBay this afternoon but just in time realised it was not the lower part after advice from the forum.

Might be worth sending a message to Serek. He used to have lots of engines and bits and pieces. Not sure if he still does.
