Laminate Flooring
« on: 08 October 2017, 12:00:03 »

Is there any major benefit in having a thicker plank, ie 12mm over 7mm?

I've always used a 7mm plank which has been fine, but I've had a good quote for a 12mm plank which will work out about £100 more and I'm unsure if it's worth the extra.  :-\

It's for a lounge in an old terraced house and the floor is slightly uneven in the middle where the lounge was knocked through.  I'm wondering if the thinner board will ride over the uneven bit better.  :-\

TIA!  :y

You could spent the £100 on a couple of gallons of finest 'Darzett Scrumpy'. :)

This is true and as I will never sit on this particular floor drinking my scrumpy part of me thinks I might as well save the cash.  :y

The other part is wondering if I've missed something in the dark complexities of laminate flooring.  :-\  ::)

Go for the 7mm, 12mm (nearly 1/2”  :o) is a complete waste of time in that application. Try and even the floor out as much as possible and use a decent, thickish underlay.

I use the 5mm foam type underlay which is really good for evening out uneven bits.  :y

I wouldn't expect M'lud to know anything about cheap laminate flooring where he insists on nothing but the best solid hardwoods to walk on and ahem other things. ::) ::) ::)

 ;D

But the hardwood flooring explains the high-speed high acceleration falls to his laptops and required repairs after he's caught with the chambermaid on the shag pile rug, stoking the fireplace. ::) ::) ::)
