Just keep on driving mate , you can't do any worse than half the tw**ts on the road  :o

I trust you are joking, given the implications with both the driving licence and insurance :-\ :-\
If anything we need more eyesight testing ,especially for older drivers , my father kept on driving long after he should have stopped , but driving was his last bit of independence and he was loathed to give it up  :(

Agreed, after my experience over the last few weeks yes I could have carried on driving totally ignoring the advice of my GP by closing one eye my vision wasn't too bad but could I have lived with myself if involved in an accident injuring another person or persons ? Definitely not, just glad it appears to have turned out ok , quite enjoyed being chauffered about but more enjoyable to be back behind the wheel again, all I want now is the all clear from the scan. I would also like to thank all the guys & gal ( Lizzie) for their good wishes for a recovery never take anything for granted again , must be an awful thing to lose your sight.

Nice to hear you are back behind the wheel again Tilbo and your scare is over with your health back to normal, pending a scan :-* :-* :y :y

Yes, I made my comment after I have had very temporary eye sight trouble, which cured itself as it was down to hay fever apparently.  But as I was getting double vision I took myself off the road.  I did this as I well remember having a row with my old dad, now departed, who insisted in driving when he was a menace to everyone on the road, and himself.  In the end the "family" took action via his GP and the DVLA revoked his licence, thank God! ;)

Independence is important to people, and it is difficult to know when it's the right time to hang up the driving gloves. :-\

I was so relieved when my Mums old Metro packed up when she was 89, up until then she just couldn't understand the risk she posed to other road users and pedestrians in particular. She lived in a very remote village and so not driving was a real problem.

Mrs and I moved a few years ago and made a point of buying a house where a car was not essential. I often don't use it for a week or so. We can walk to the shops, train station, and . . . . . THE PUBS !   :y

Glad every thing is O.K Mick,I was going to offer you a theory on your eye problem now that the worries have gone. And I think you'll understand this.....I think it's all those years of sleeping on the night shift with one eye on the lookout for the mobile superintendent creeping up on us unannounced...I got caught a couple of times and had to bribe them with a cuppa or two ;) :)

Me and my brother took action about getting my 86yo mum to stop driving.....we simply took her car off her and sold it....simples  ;)

My great aunt has finally hung her keys up this year having just turned 100, she only got an auto 5 years ago  :o :o

A few years ago I went out to dinner with a mate and his Dad who at the time was in his early 90's.  His Dad drove us in his newish BMW 3 series and drove it like he stole it!  :o

That was a bit of a white knuckle ride!  ::)  ;D
