Really is dependant on the spark that wired your car. The OE 12N socket has a small switching the side if the socket that the 12N plug switches to turn the car's rear fog off. But there are various options with relays to turn a car's rear fog & reverse light off when towing.

Thanks for the help .I have a 30a Auto switch combi relay TEC3M in my wiring in the boot  When I checked this the wire going to the 12 volt connection was not connected I connected this up, a green wire, but nothing changed.Do you think that the relay is faulty.would this affect the rear fogs and the reversing lights. Relay connections are 12v 12v 6 4 2 Ov wires are green red green blue black in same order.

just been out in the dark to check lights and having read a post on failed wiring on the boot hinge checked this and sure enough found a fault by wiggling the cable. so rear fogs sorted now have to sort the reversing lights.

Do the reversing lights wires also come down the boot hinge?

I think they do.  I didn't use any fancy electrickery on my Omega, just used the mechanical additional switch in the socket with a OE 12N then OE 13 pin socket which just switched fogs off.

Sorted the reverse and rear fog lights out.It was a broken wire on the boot hinge.the interesting point was that the fog indicator came on when reverse was selected auto but no working fog.Whilst trying to diagnose the problem I was checking fuses and now my headlamp main beam indicator on the instrument display has gone. any idea which fuse controls this?

Yes all this down to a broken wire on the boot hinge what a stupid place to run these wires.

How else would you power stuff fitted to the bootlid? Especially if you need it to work if the lid is open.
