Nissan HR16DE upper oil pan plug question
« on: 11 October 2017, 16:51:49 »

This might not be the best place or the first place to ask but I'll give it a shot anyway.

Is there something behind this plug?
I removed it for some reason when taking the oilpan off and now that I was putting stuff back together, I found a weird looking "piston" on the ground that is hollow and has 4 holes on the sides (90 degrees apart) on the other end while the other end is open. And it definitely fits very well in this whole so I think it must be from it but I can't figure out which way it goes in there and somehow it isn't included in any exploded view or manual I can find for this.

Oops! That sounds very much like the oil pressure relief valve. :o Don't run it until you've replaced the piston as you'll have no oil pressure!

(check that there's a spring behind it too - that may have popped out)

That is most likely what it is! Now I just need to find that missing spring  :y

I never lost the spring, it was in the lower oil pan, only noticed today as I was putting it all together.
Blind I am..

OK, Next question is which way up it went into the bore, and spring first or spring last. You might need to read a manual to find that out. ;)

Only reason I was asking is because for some reason this tiny part is not covered in the manual while every other tiny bit is in it.

But the order is plug spring and piston, the spring was inside the plug already and the piston dropped out when I was juggling the oilpan off. It all makes sense now that I have all the parts at hand heh.
