Wifi problem with wireless adapter or access point
« on: 21 October 2017, 00:36:18 »

Hey all

Having some odd problems tonight with my laptop, hoping some bods can offer advice/test.....usually when I got to my folks house I can connect up to their wifi automatically but tonight the connection, while saying it is connected has yellow exclamation mark on taskbar network icon.Things I've checked so far are:

Checked ethernet connection - fine
Checked my mobile connects - fine
Checked wireless adapter for updates - fine
Done network diagnostics - gave issue in Subject line about wireless adapter
Tried rebooting laptop and hub

Have got connection set to auto connect but it doesn't, I have to open in taskbar and click connect, then it says can't connect, then if I trouble shoot it goes through a resetting network adapter then asks to check if it is fixed, which it isn't, and says windows can't solve the problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Andrew

Its telling you your connected but with limited connectivity, in other words you need to go through another action to complete.

Has the router or settings been changed, your connection has probably been remembered from last time it was connected, try clearing cache and cookies or try a different browser, and or delete your WiFi connection to this connection / router and start again a fresh.

Nothing had changed on connection as far as i was aware. Deleted original connection, then reconnected, this time it asked for passkey and it worked.

There is also a 5g connection that is active but doesn't show up in list of available connections. I'm using 2 g one that will do.

Thanks.

Check if its given you a (non APIPA) IP address as first port of call. If not, check router dhcp pool still has IPs left, beyond that, delete the wifi profile completely from your device, and recreate.

You haven't (or someone else) assigned a static address and forgotten? If not then open the command prompt (type cmd at the start menu) and then run:

Ipconfig /release
Ipconfig /renew

And let us know the result.
