They email me every time it's time for me to submit my tax return...

They never, however, disclose finances and it is always a note to log in to the government portal (which handles all the figures).

Hmm, I got a letter in the post purporting to be from HMRC asking for another £157 in tax for the year just gone. I wonder if this is a scam too?  ;D

This is HMRC. You all owe back tax of £987.63. This is payable immediately.

Message me for address for cheques and details for BACS.

They send you a letter, and unless you give them your bank details you have to wait 2 months before you get a cheque....

A few years back at work, HMRC got confused when we had a slight name/owner change. Our P60s had the wrong number (smaller) in the red box than what we'd actually earned,  it assumed we'd paid too much tax so sent out loads of cheques ranging from a couple of hundred quid to a few thousand. I realised their mistake,  phoned & told them, they agreed & stopped my cheque. Loads of other lads cashed & spent their cheques.
Weeks later when HMRC got their act together asked for their money back ...... cue loads of upset lads that then had to pay it back via their wages/tax code.
