It Must Be Winter
« on: 07 December 2017, 10:26:13 »

Bought a Bosch 5 year warranty battery for the car in February, as most of you know I dont get out much and as per usual went out to a flat battery yesterday, no big deal, Called the AA got the usual garbabe about the battery being Fubar and 1volt in 15 minutes load yada yada.

Had a good run out to recharge, will be going out at lunch to retry see if it held a charge and if starts have a run round to top the charge up for an inportant tun out tonight to pick a friend up (and yes doctor opti, she is a cracker and 27 years younger)

So as a backup plan I priced a replacement up

I paid £75.00 delivered (Eurocarparts through Amazon delivered to my door)

ECP and Halfords for the same Bosch 5year battery.

Sorry Bosch not showing now but £114 Yuasa (Halfrauds)  :-\
Bosch at ECP £157.99  :-X

3.2's battery is a bit sluggish, got a link for one you got?

£75 is about same as CostCo as I looked last time I was in.

When my 2.6 needed a new battery last year I got a trade club battery for about £45. :y

It isn't as big as the one that came out so don't know if it would be suitable for a 3.0 or 3.2 litre  :-\

Depends on warranty. We all know letting a car battery go flat effectively kills its capacity.  So in this case, could it be argued to be defective, or abused?

Difficult call really. But possible difficult to prove either way.

The Trade Club Book is wrong for batteries.  Make sure its always a 75AH for any V6 or tractor when buying new :y

Well regardless of the scare tactics from the AA there seems to be a good battery on the car.

When I was told it was Fubar.
Did 23 miles to charge it back up, day after it started no problems, and again last night.

So watchdog were spot on when they showed the complaints about the A and the battery complaints.

To be fair to them, If you've got a dead flat battery in front of you, it's impossible to tell if it's any use or not. Their advice will be on the assumption that, 90% of the time, the battery has gone flat because it's reached the end of its' life unless there's something obvious like a light that has been left on or no output from the alternator.

They aren't going to be able to tell if there's something more subtle like high current drain due to a vehicle fault but they will get called out daily by some folk until they tell them to get a new battery.

Credit where it's due, the chap who jumped my Plod Omega at work for the third time in a week, (GAL provide free jumpstart services for staff via the AA), took the time to find where all the electrickery was going... :y
