Don’t you just love social media
« on: 18 December 2017, 18:20:48 »

Just seen a preview of what’s coming up on the local news at 6:30. A Barnsley woman who is being trolled because, according to the saddoes hiding behind their keyboards, she is too fat to be using foodbanks.

I fail to see why people would act this way.

100 years ago wealthy people were fat and poor people were thin. However, because there is so much cheap high calorie crap about it is often the poor who are more prone to obesity in the UK.

The insane thing is that it is cheaper to buy fresh veggies, a big bag of spuds or rice and cheap cuts of meat to cook good food from scratch, than buy all that processed shite that people eat.  ::)

'Tis true'

The supermarkets should run BOGOF's on healthy food but they don't. It always seems to be 'sugary' stuff.

It gets worse. The poor woman was on question time last week in Barnsley, and a conservative councillor tweeted after the show that people on benefits are obese because they eat too many pizzas!
What a fickin world.

This morning I had a bowl of porridge sprinkled with mixed fruit and nuts and a sliced banana.

For lunch I had two poached eggs and a baked potato.

For dinner I enjoyed home-made cottage pie with carrots, and green beans.

I do eat 'junk' but not that often.

The popularist social media platforms are the cancer of society.

Yes, I only noticed Tiggers post afterwards, and he makes a good point. Unfortunately, there aren’t enough characters in a tweet to make a good point, so he sounded like he was saying something totally different.

Jaime..I’ve never agreed with you so much about anything. I could actually see the change, in a relatively short period of time, that arsebook made to the way my lad behaved.

I don't do social media and never have[I'm an anti-social sod at the best of times ;D]but I don't understand why people young and old complain of being bullied etc. on such sites but then keep on using them, surely if it bothers someone that much they'd use another method of keeping in touch with their friends?

This is exactly my point, Baza, it’s a substitute for friendship now. Whole groups of workmates, whole classes or year groups from school, whole groups of staff from schools....they are all in it together. You can’t just stop posting because it’s the only social interaction that a lot of people get.
If you’ve never hung about on the street corner with your mates, or never been for a drink with your work colleagues, it’s the one way of staying in touch and catching up.

It’s breeding a generation of people that behave totally differently to the way we did.

I like the old fashioned ways. You know, meeting your friends down the pub, or going out for a meal, or meeting up for coffee (as much as I dislike coffee shops). And if they aren't local, using that device in the corner with buttons on it, which if pressed in the right order, connect you to friends and family around the world.
