Running temperature poll
« on: 24 March 2018, 17:51:59 »

Jut curious: What is your car's normal average running temperature?
Let's say running in a straight line on a flat road, 50 mph or so.

You missed off it varies around the middle mark on the gauge. That's all I subconsciously look for.

Which temperature are we talking, the more reliable CTS that feeds the ECU , or the single probe sensor which feeds the gauge?

In mine[3L V6]usually just below 90 then when standing in traffic goes to just above 90 before fans kick in and drop it back below 90.

PFL/MFL midpoint is 95C, FL midpoint is 90C.

In general cruising, it should sit marginally below midpoint.  If its significantly lower when cruising, then it needs a new stat.

In traffic, it should rise to marginally above midpoint before the low speed fans come on and lower it to just below midpoint.  If it rises above, then look at fans and/or rad.

On a *really* hot UK day, and after a bit of a thrashing followed by traffic, it may go up to halfway between midpoint and 100C (so around 97C of PFL/MFL, and 92C on FL), and the high speed fans come on, and lower it to just below midpoint.  If this isn't the case, again check fans and cooling.

Given the engines, all FL, so 90C is midpoint. Will creep to about 91-92C in traffic, before fans come on, or even as high as 95C is driven with some effort (so you failed ;D), then in traffic - particularly on a hot day with the AC working overtime.

I know your white cop estate went over 90C when waiting to pull out onto a main road at Wycombe, following a half hearted spirited attempt that was mostly aborted due to your tyres being inflated to 10,000 psi, but the fans soon put it back where it should :y
