Cooker question
« on: 10 April 2018, 18:15:36 »

I have a SFO2SS which in the words of SWMBO went pop and tripped the fuse.  After which the grioll didn't work.  It's nearly 5 years old and well out of warranty so I popped the back off to have a butchers.  I quickly found the culprit by the big brown mark on the side and a quick google told me it was a temperature regulator.

I ordered a placement which arrived today.  Despite the pictures online being identical to the old one, upon inspection it appears the new part is different.  Firstly the old regulator is rated to 100C, the new one 115C.  The polarity also seems different (red mark).

Is this important or should I send it back and insist on a the correct one being sent out?

I'd try to get in touch with them and explain situation. The original may have been superceded by the new part you now have,or it could be that what they've sent is plain wrong!

Just done that but instead of someone who knows what they are talking about I got a representative  who is semi-trained in customer relations.

General gist of the conversation:
Me - I think I have been sent the wrong part
Them - does the packaging have XYZ on it?
Me - No, it has ZYX.
Them - That's ok item no ZYX = catalogue no XYZ.  It could be packaged wrong if it doesn't look the same.  You can use out online return process, blah, blah, blah....
Me - is it wrong or has it been superceded?
Them - Try fitting it and let us know.
Me- Has the polarity changed then because the red marking is on the other side?
Them - Dont know.

End of chat - How did we do?  Please give us a rating.....

So it's ok then?  Is the polarity marked by red or is it not important?

It's an overheat stat ,  ;)
cuts continuity between the 2 spade terminals if too hot (115 degrees)
red dot does not denote polarity , it will disconnect when it reaches it's 115 degree threshold

No Polarity involved.  That'll be a QC marking, or a "Yes, I'be been tested".

And yes, that is the corect part for the PNC number you gave.

I cant see an overheat stat tripping a circuit breaker, might be worth doing some checks on the heating element.

New element fitted as well.  I guess that had gone and blown the regulator as both were fskd.  £80 in parts, cheaper than a new oven :y

.. and mrs. Guffer will soon get over the fact that the chance of a new kitchen has gone for another 5 years.

I know, I've just fixed our fridge for the second time. You'd think she'd be grateful. ::)

Yup the freezer ice servo packed up a couple of years ago.  Found a compatible part, fitted it and hey presto; crushed ice again.

As for the new kitchen, we may be getting a fixer-upper in Chicago and I do as much cooking as Mrs G so they'll be both our ideas going in to it.  One thing is for sure is that it will have a coffee machine linked to the smart home  8)
