Simple enough question to ask, but hard to find a decent answer.
Council site says they won't accept liquid paint, so trying to fill the pots with sand. Can't see it ever drying.
Help !!!!!

They accept paint at my local tip, so when you next come down this way chuck it all in the boot.

Yes, our local council accept it too, I think it's recycled in some way.

Bit of a way from Wareham to get rid of some old paint though.  Worth phoning the local Recycling Centre nearest your site? 

Other than that dig a deep hole at the bottom of your garden!

In our area as along as it's solidified with something - cheap cat litter is a good start, or soil and stick it in the bin. It goes for landfill unfortunately....

Yes Ian, I am trying to fill with sand. However, I started with a litre of gloss white, I now have 2.5 litres of stodgy white gloss. I have added a bit of mortar.
We are away for a month from Monday, so how long should it take to go solid

Its years old Steve.....some left over from before I retired. Skinned, but liquid underneath. I should have got rid of it all when I was working, instead of keeping it 'for a rainy day' !!!

Some recycling sites (often in supermaket car parks) have big wheely bins with mouths big enough to take paint tins.....just saying.

Put the tins in bin bags and chuck them in the skip when the on site workers are busy doing something else.
I do this with all kinds of stuff regularly.

Bloody stupid system. Parents tried to get rid of some at their local too (Llandovery)
Their suggestion was that we paint some bits of wood with it, which they would then accept and recycle  . Instead, the tins went in black bags and then into landfill.

Mix it all together, and paint the garage with it.,

Or go round local Ind estate and put it in a skip.

Why the hell do they make it so difficult to get rid of stuff like this .
Surely it is in their interest to take it in , it would stop illegal dumping and then save them money clearing it . It is just stupid 😣

I took a washbasin to the tip a year or so ago. "Oh, that's soil and rubble. £3.50 please".

Was in my building attire and had no cash on me.

Chucked it back in the car and broke it up once I got home. Chucked the bits in the wheelie bin. 

The harder it is to get rid of stuff, the more things will be disposed of inappropriately. It's their choice. Paint tins fit in the wheelie bin nicely.

This is it, Andy, me and you both. But the council went potty when their lorries compacted the rubbish, and left trails of paint down the roads.
Why some tips take paint and others don't...it's a postcode lottery !!!!

I've since looked at the council tip guide lines about paint. Apparently the tip takes paint for disposal but there are places that'll take it & use/recycle it https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/home/cleaning/tips/a24186/throwing-out-paint/

Your tip is probably nothing to do with the council. Most are run by the l8kes of Viridor.

Unfortunately there are a lot of 'jobs worths' employed at my local tip; especially when it comes to disposing of inert waste.
It's surprising how their opinion on quantities vary depending on who you approach. Fortunately I have several waste disposal site near me, and I visit different ones depending on what I am disposing of.
Never had a problem disposing of half empty paint tins though at any site.

I tried offering it on freecycle, as I normally try to give away things that are potentially useful. No interest. Had someone been interested on freecycle, they'd probably have wanted me to come round and fit it for them, IME.

I have 2 old sofas which are in good condition and have removable washable covers.  I've put them on gumtree and freecycle as free to collector thinking that a young couple or someone with dogs would snap them up. Nada! 

I think I'll put them up on ebay for £1000 next and describe them as shabby chic! They'll fly out the door!

We just donated an old bed to the British Heart Foundation - one of the few charities that will send a van to collect stuff, which is very handy.

Soft furnishings, though, I think need to have their "fire standard" tags intact, which is a problem when we want rid of the dining chairs (because the cats have destroyed the tags as dangly play-things )

Still, they took the 20 year old but perfect condition solid pine bed frame and the mattress. So at least that's not cluttering up the hallway, now.

My old roof off my old garage, was "re-purposed" as a base for the hardcore to sit on in the hole that I'd dug for the new garage floor. The "Hardcore" was the concrete walls smashed up up with a pick axe.
This saved a fortune in sand cement and stone. 
because *query possibly* asbestos roof panels need to be specially dealt by a crack team of bureaucrats in white coats with a clip board and a hard hat and concrete slaps are a pain to lift into the boot (or a skip)
Actual concrete paving slaps were advertised on an allotment site notice board as FREE to first enquirer.  And are now being re-lifed as a small wall for raised beds. 

Paint Tins ? I'm saving them all until I can work out a way of building a house with them.
