Tyres
« on: 15 August 2006, 10:12:28 »

What do you guys get out of a set of tyres?

I'm only getting about 14 - 15k out of a pair and while I know Omega's are a bit heavy on tyres, I just wondered if this was the norm.

Granted I have 265's on the back which probably doesn't help matters much, but I'm replacing the bu**ers ever 4 - 5 months. (Not cheap!)

I had a full 4 wheel alignment at the beginning of the year.

I put Dunlop D9000 all round on mine last year.  Good in the dry, but a bit suss in the wet.  Now about 10k miles in, with fronts and rears at about 4mm, but the shoulder on the fns is down - thats roundabouts, more than alignment, I think!!

If new they are about 7mm, then at a guess, still got another 6 - 8 k or so to go, so probably in the same bracket as you are in total.

Where did you get your 4 wheel alignment done, as a matter of interest?  Trying to source somewhere reliable/recommended up our way, but nothing found as yet.

Broocie,

I used 'Automotive Services' in Broomhead Drive in Dunfermline. Run by a Yugoslavian called Job, (prenounced Yobe), I think. Their servicing is second to none and his other business interest is bespoke suspension development and manufacturing so I reckon he's got a fair idea of what he's talking about.

The number's in the book.

my facelift has Goodyear Eagle Venture's on... got about 22k so far out of them - another 15k left i think

my dad has the record... when his facelift was a fleet car its first set of tyres lasted 50k!!! :o

90% motorway miles, doing usual speeds of 80.

He just never chucked it around corners!

I get around 25k out of Conti's , slightly less from the Dunlop sp9000s,  worst i had was 20k from some bridgestones.

Got michelins on the back and Dunlops at the from at the moment, both seem to be lasting well.

Oh yeah - 225 55 16.

I expect, and get 40K plus out of Michelins. Mark I know doesn't like Michelins, but I'm afraid I do. ;)

I got 30k out of the first set of Michelins that came factory-fitted with the car, then went for Contis, they did 15k so far and are about half worn so will probably be good for another 10-15k.
