Trip Round Drax Power Station
« on: 25 January 2007, 20:33:47 »

Made some enquiries today and have been given the OK for a site visit for the OOF.

I'm not exactly sure what it would include, I'll make firmer arrangements when I know levels of interest, but they have agreed to provide an official tour guide for us if there are a reasonable amount of people.  If its just a few people (4 or 5) then they will let me give the tour.

An official tour would be free by the way :y

I usually stay in a Travel Inn in Goole which is a couple of miles away from Drax, £52 per night on a weekday, cheaper on a weekend.  Does have a pub attached though.

York 30 miles, East Coast 45 miles so a visit, a pub meal and a few drinks, and a run out the next day is a possibility.

So the question is, who’s interested?  Answers on a post card please...

Is it still there?  I thought someone sold it on ebee a while back!
Could be.  These trips are usually very interesting even for the non-technical etc.
What kind of times/days are you looking at, invited people etc (age limits - minimums, I'm thinking more sensible kids etc - I think the stations are often adults only).

Count me in. :y Always interested in trips that are "something out of the ordinary".
Also it'll be a good opportunity to meet up with a few more members and have a couple of beers and some nosh in the evening. Any ideas as to dates?

I think I probably would also be up for this, depending on day/date.  Give the beastie a chance to stretch her legs.

I could certainly prefer to get an overnight out of it, midweek.  Too much driving for me at the moment on the one day without a few beers a meal and a kip!

Children should be OK.

Official guide may only be during the week so may affect peoples availability?? good excuse for a day off, interesting trip, pub meal and a few drinks though :y

Yep, boiler as tall as York Minster hung from the roof, statistics about Drax just blow you away.

I'll get a range of potential dates and info, will post on Monday

Go for it - half-term is w/c 19th Feb for us.  Get-you-home driver (after the pub meal), that'll be a few more places needed then  ;)
