The Opel Manta is a notorious ruster, especially the later models.I should think this is a major project-not for the inexperienced welder! the CIH engine is very reliable and has chain driven valve gear with self adjusting hydraulic tappets. There is a very good owners club with a busy forum. Try googleing The Opel Manta Owners Club.

Hi

to a welder like myself that looks like a very  good project i  think you should write to him and ask just what needs welding, if it is just the floor pans or sills /wheel arches or chassis rails it would not be to bad a job at all but if the rot is in the inner wings or bulkhead then things get very tricky. due to  stuctual strenth and space and keeping everything in the right shape.

if you were still interested,  buy or hire for a weekend or two the best mig welder you can afford at best a good SIP 150amp then practic on some scrap thin sheet metal first.

The trickyest bit for even a coded welder like myself is that you can never get a good earth on a car  and finding  good clean metal to weld to is tricky as rusty thin sheet (0.8/1.0) on cars just turns into even bigger holes than you started of with.

hope this is of any help  cheers neil

He has cancelled any further bidding due to doubts about ownership or something. Be careful!

Hi Neil
thanks for your input

ive decided this is too big a job - did email theseller and he mentions inner boot/floor, inner wings, batery tray, inside wing/wings but come and see it anyway....sounds like too much for me too soon...

may hire that mig thought for a play about - just need to keep the dogs out the way  :o
