My Fuel Consumption is not well
« on: 31 August 2006, 10:10:32 »

I really normally dont take to much notice of these things.

Started using the MV6 for school run/commute in the morning.

Over the course of a week of 20minute journeys without stopping in the "snail trail" through town i seem to be averaging...

19.3mpg from a 3litre! On a motorway 70mph journey i get about 28-29 mpg Both MID figures

Car has not been above 40mph but i think that 19.3 is a bit low.

Just occasionally when its been floored i dont think it kicks you back in the seat as much - i could be paranoid here as its still lethal.

Recently serviced and was fine afterwards, also idles fine.

I am thinking breather cleaning time - anyone else got any thoughts....

And what is your 3 litre commute MPG?

Mine averages at 21.9 for about 3000 miles since last reset.    :'(

Generally town/bypass driving, not too much motorway.

Tempted to do a reset, seeing as how fuel prices have dropped a wee tad!!

My MV6 is currently reading over 26mpg according to computer (which is mega accurate as I've tweked with tech2). My journeys are probably a little better than yours.

My I suggest a replacement fuel filter, as well as breathers etc. And check the air filter.

Also, just make sure the tyre pressures are OK, as this can make a huge difference. Remember, its got cooler lately (well it has down south), so the pressures may have dropped since you last checked...

....so mine doesnt seem to be that bad does it then, bearing in mind its rush hour stop start stuff......

EDIT

Jamie

just read your post - one tyre was a bit low yesterday - sitting at 28 so its back to where it should be.

Fuel and air filters were done - oooooh 6 weeks ago so they should be ok.

Cheers!

My 3.0 is showing 25.8 mpg which is from mostly motorway use 80mph(ish)
Lend your car to my Mrs. She'll get it down more for you. She only has 2 positions for the go pedal - all the way up & all the way down. A few winters back she used  my car for her 3 or 4 mile journey to work & succeeded in reducing the mpg from around 20 to 16.8 mpg!

I get 22 MPG average out of the 3.2 auto!!  :'(

Couple that with doing up to 1000 miles a week hurts the pocket a bit. Some of it's expensed,  8-) but not all!!  :'(

I usaully come in about 19ish for town driving, i.e. A89 through to Glasgow, with all the lights and other holdups etc.,  so i don't think you're too far out.

What did you used to get?

Whats going on my car is averaging 24.5 or something like that, at the moment it doesn't get much motorway driving and only covers a 20mile trip a day I think my display is wrong in comparison to your V6's

Mine's showing 21.6 which includes a leisurely run down to Cardiff a couple of weeks ago. I usually average high 19's on a 12 mile across town journey to work & back.

IIRC, you'd be lucky to read much off your display  ;)
The only one I've seem worse is the original out of Project TB1.

Has you're MID been changed at any point?

Not as far as I know but the missing pixels seem to be down one side of the screen so reading the mileage isn't a problem.

I managed to pick up a perfect one from scrappy for Project TB1 the other day, and nice and easy to change. Get it off same spec car (engine, tyres, xenons, aux heater, transmission) and it won't need programming ;)

Thats good  :) I'm tempted to wait and buy new from Vx as finding a good one to the same spec so far has been a nightmare.

You should get yourself a MID from a scrappy, got mint ones down there  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

If you get a MID but wrong spec for car, I'm sure you know someone who will Tech2 it for a piece of paper with the picture of the queen on it ;)

Shall carry on the search but in my area they are not the best you can get at scrappies and what also doesn't help is the majority are GLS spec with the TID not full MID

Not sure when I will be down my local scrappy again, but I might be able to get a full MID, there were several cars with them still intact.

When i go to pay at my scrappy, he always asks what car its off, soon as i say meega or volvo his eyes light up and the price doubles, now i say astra or veccy and its much cheaper, something i've learnt along the way ;)
