Just sat inside another Omega today, Estate though but still. Xenon from factory, self leveling suspension, black recaro leather seats and even those plastic wooden trims were black in color! Bose stereo with telephone and who knows what else.
It only has first and reverse on the tranny so went to see if my laptop would be of any use trying to see what actually works and what doesn't.

I WANT ONE  :'(

Something like these:

.

In hoof'land stores got complete O3, slate grey leather saloon fitment. Unless the mice have eaten it.

What's the import tax like? Sounds like it's worth hiring a van and driving a load of spares down from UK.

No tax from UK ;)

Just got back from a 760 mile round trip to visit youngest lad in Northumberland. The old gal went like a dream, will hate the day when she has to go. :'( The car i mean, not SWMBO. :D

Northumberland was the half-way point to where mine took me last week. 1400 miles without a murmur in complete comfort. These cars take some beating, even at 213,000 miles. :y

And nothing else comes close to it for the price you paid for your Omega when you got it several years ago.

No. I'm very much aware of that. Really not sure what its replacement will be when it does depart this life.
What else has the ride, comfort, handling, towing capability and (with LPG) economy?

Cant answer the towing (can a towbar even be fitted?) but the X351 Jag (tractor) meets everything else...  ...but at a cost.

I can see the V8, even LPG'd, being a drain on the wallet, unless you don't play. I would lack the discipline  :-[

I'm still very much into the idea of buying a car that cost someone a stupid amount of money quite a few years ago.
The alternative would be a newish washing machine nondescript, wwd, small hatch.
So for me it would be CL500, e38 740i, XJ, LS400 / 430.
A CL500 which cost around £70k 15 years ago can be had now for less than £3k. A hell of a lot of car for the money, but can also be a horrendous money pit. Especially if the ABC goes wrong.
I really think I will keep my current Omega for a while yet though. Ive got it almost exactly how I want it to be, and it really is a lovely thing to drive. :)

The steering wheel on the 190 has been off centre since I last took it off about a year ago, so I finally put it on straight today.
Also refitted the door handle and doorcard on the o/s/r door, after taking them off several weeks ago to push out a dent when an old dear reversed into it.
Hoping to wash both cars tomorrow before starting a run of nights. Depends on weather and energy cba level.  :)

Went to Tuev today

Failed!

Oil leakage (but there is no oil on my parking lot)
Front light right side a little down
Sealing between Cat (new) and exhaust pipe (3 years old) was a little low

Last problem is a little curios. The lower assembly of the RIGHT rear shock absorber failed  :o. Whats that?

So I compared right assembly with the left assembly. I found the LEFT assembly was wrong! Somewhere in the past some idiot changed the rear shock absorbers. Maybe he lost the left bolt, so he used a 12 mm bolt instead of the original 14 mm bolt. Of course now a nut was needed. He used a 19 mm nut. But he found also, that is no good to use a nut only on the left side. So he put a 22 mm nut on the right side 14 mm bolt. But the bolt is to short for that nut....so I failed.

Last Tuev did not notice that in 2015.

My welding work was well noticed, I found some proving marks. Also brakes, wheel suspension and everything else is OK.

I will rework all 4 points over the weekend and my 97 Caravan will pass Tuev next Monday  :y

Thats the problem Rolf, you never can tell how the previous owners have repaired/bodged the car before you had it.

On trader saw BMW 745i for £3k, it was 2004 year so the real ugly one. But top spec, Phone, electric memory heated seats. Blinds in the doors, even the small corner bit had it’s own blind. Was long wheel base one.

Cost someone huge amount once, cheap as chips now.

Now they fuel use is not an issue  ::)  :-X  ;D

That puts things into perspective!  :o

Look tempting at these prices, perhaps I'll just keep an eye on W126 shape Mercs.

This is nice:

Hi ronnyd
yes, you are absolutely right. I want to reset my Omegas to factory conditions. There is plenty of time. In 2027 (Caravan) and 2028 (Limousine) they should reach historic car status.
