On trader saw BMW 745i for £3k, it was 2004 year so the real ugly one. But top spec, Phone, electric memory heated seats. Blinds in the doors, even the small corner bit had it’s own blind. Was long wheel base one.

Cost someone huge amount once, cheap as chips now.

Now they fuel use is not an issue  ::)  :-X  ;D
Make sure there no issue with steering .
I done steering rack on one if them last year was £3k from bmw
No aftermarket replacement available

That puts things into perspective!  :o

Look tempting at these prices, perhaps I'll just keep an eye on W126 shape Mercs.

This is nice:

A beautiful car and would be a good investment. Will never drop in value.  Built like tanks, but check well for rust, as they can have serious problems when they get old.

My cars live outside so I think rust protection could be an issue, this looks nice as well, at other end of the scale...

I would take an old Merc all day long. Although not that particular one at that price.  ;)

I'm still very much into the idea of buying a car that cost someone a stupid amount of money quite a few years ago....

The problem is, "a cut above a shitbox" cars don't seem to depreciate to sensible money until they are as old as my Omega is, which defeats the object. I'd really like to buy something like my Omega was when I bought it. 4 years old, 40 odd K on the clock, that will do me for many years and a lot of miles with care, and for under 10K. No shitboxes, no tractors, no german "prestige" (=estate agent) badges. That car doesn't exist at sensible money.

I find it incredible what people seem prepared to pay for a 2nd hand crappy FWD POS these days, especially if it's got a "prestige" badge on the front. Actual decent cars are another matter again.

Ho Humm. Guess I'll have to hope the Omega holds out for a few more years. Requirements could also hinge on what my future commute is like. :-X

Im not worried about the age of the car, as long as its in good nick tbh. My Omega is 15 years old and my commute car is 27 years old with 233000 on the clock. I wouldn't be surprised if the commute car outlasts me.  :)

Started stripping the interior to clean it properly. Difficult to tell if it was a skip or an ashtray ;D

Interior looks to be in pretty reasonable nick considering  :y

Interior now presentable, just the outside to do...

Also replaced the freewiththecarbutonlybecausethesellercouldn'tbearsedtothrowitout JVC headunit that didn't work... found out why when the front fell off ::)

Went to fit the heated rear seat wiring whilst the seat base was out only to find that the switch plugs aren't present >:( and then went to run a bus cable for the disc changers, only to find that the dog has eaten the plugs off one end >:(

Concluded that it was just one of those days, so simply hoovered under it and put the cushion back ::)

Drove it to Borden, where we rang a half-muffled quarter peal in memory of a local ringer who was killed in Flanders one hundred years ago. Everything I've heard about these bells is true; it was really hard work.

Discovered I need to top up the coffers of Kingston council. self-abusers. Its a oppsing shithole of a place anyway, so adds insult to injury.

So washed the Jag in the hope it wouldn't be a naughty kitty again.
