My first Vauxhall
« on: 05 August 2006, 08:24:54 »

Not the actual picture, but same model, mine was grey with black mudguards.

Originaly my Dad's, he gave it to me when I passed my driving test at 17.

I do wish I still had it, it was in mint condition.

Spec. inc. 4 doors, leather seats, sunroof, hydraulic brakes, ohv engine, independant front suspension (not bad for a pre. war car) , zenith carb and a starting handle.

Sparking plug gap was 37 thou.

It had a top speed of c.58 mph., would cruise all day at 40 - 45.

Used to, in those days, put 5 gallons of petrol in it, give the attendant £1, and say keep the change!

Aptly titled set of seats  ;D ;D

Couldn't resist, i know the sort of thing you are referring to, they used to do them for the mini vans, it got round car tax as it was still classified as a van

My first car was a Mini, my first Vauxhall was a Mk2 Cavalier 1.6 GL in yellow...ahh happy days.

That had a jump seat as well  ;) ;D

AA did your 10 have the chrome flutes up the bonnet and a sliding sunroof?

Had to wait for a Mk2 escort van for a jump  ;D

Always wanted a Chevette and then moved onto a Senator

My first was a Ford Fiesta with an engine mount missing, couldn't get 1st gear, not good with less than 1000cc's! Used a gallon of oil a week, swapped it for a 2.3 Granada  ;) & had 4 of them since, loved them until I got the Omega!

First was a £750 Rover 213S - apart from the rust a genuinely nice car to drive (reasonable gearbox, engine reasonably lively, good sense of what the car was up to through the steering wheel). Drove that into the ground, got £10 from the scrappers in the end.

Then a £900 Cavalier 1.6 LS, drove that into the ground (think it needed too much welding in the end) - same end solution - walking out of the scrappers with a tenner. Loved the car so much that I bought...

... A £1500 Cavalier 2.0 LS Eco, last of the 95's, drove that until it was getting a little long in the tooth, and the wedding plans indicated I had a few grand to spare. Sold the car for £150...

... no more Cavaliers being made?, had to be an Omega then. And in all likelyhood, in the year and a bit I've owned it, it's probably depreciated more than the overall costs of the previous three cars rolled into one.
