Ive got the cheapo cruise conversion in mine.
Brick on the gas pedal.

Just like the hand throttle on a crane wagon I used to drive, diary and a piece of wood wedged on the gas pedal to run the pto.

I only put the drive by wire cars on poll, as non drive by wires do not need enabling (just add the bits and it works)

Sort of agree, but sometimes I don''t want to drive, I just want easy journey. Also use in 30mph zones to help keep speed down...

Is my 2000 W reg MV6 enabled. ie can I just get a different indicator stalk with cruise buttons and plug it in?

If its a 3.0l then you need the actuator, cable, stalk, brake switch and clutch switch if manual...

I don't see why the MV6 couldn't be enabled.

I think there's an urban myth about this pre-enabled lark. Why would some be pre-enabled?

I think it's because the diesels are ALL pre-enabled (aren't they?) and after adding the effects of Chineese whispers, the rumour has spread.

Edit. Of course. The 3.0 is not FBW. The 2.6 and 3.2 is.

I don't actually know if my cars rigged for cruise control or not - how would I find out?

Being a non DBW, it has no concept of being enabled. Add all the bits, and it will work.

I put mine into sports mode to hold it in a lower gear, especially if going downhill in a 30 with speed cameras about.

Ah, gotcha. Don't think I'd bother fitting cruise though because I doubt if I'd use it much. Also, at some point I'd like to chop my current Omega in for a later higher spec model which will probably include cruise, just need to win a few quid on the lottery first!

it is auto but still sounds too difficult to bother with

It's not like the clutch where there is a space for it, do you just put it on the floor further back so you can steer with your right knee whilst making a cup of tea using those nice electric heated tea mugs avalible from all second rate service stations?

Have got cruise (ps sorry - posted on wrong answer - FBW didn't click when I first read it!), use it all the time, almost every day even if just doing local runs. tend to find it is a bit cheaper on fuel for constant speeds and obviously protects against speed cameras.

As for taking the fun out of it - rubbish, you only have to press the throttle down if you want to bring the fun back. If you want the full driving experience then don't use it, but if you feel like being lazy, you can just let the cruise deal with it. Only improvement I could wish for was an automatic with cruise but having a manual, you still have to do something every now and again.
