General Discussion Area / PM/Martin Lewis
« on: 31 August 2022, 17:34:19 »
Well I would look forward to seeing such an encounter on tv debating the cost of living crisis. Maybe this is the new face of political accountability.

Sadly, I don’t see it coming to fruition especially if ,as predicted, Truss gets the poisoned chalice. She will use too much to do cutting taxes as an excuse to avoid failing live on tv.

Anyone think the next pm will accept the challenge ?

This chap, an ex gang member,  keeps cropping up on the uk news following the Liverpool shooting.

I had never heard  the first name before so had to google.

one of a party of Zealots and terrorists resorting to murder in attempting to expel the Romans from ancient Palestine a.d. 52–60. An assassin, a spider.

His life was mapped at birth!

One for Rae.

Campaigners want to rename Leicester’s Pork Pie roundabout to Vegan Pie Roundabout as it is healthier.

Can’t do the link but it is in offbeat section of Sky News.

I wonder if the FBI was after his orange sun tan formula. It isn’t there, Putin is looking after it.

General Car Chat / Electrical fault
« on: 07 August 2022, 18:38:53 »
Just been out and had a harrowing experience in my old 4x4.

36C and going on one of my various daily off road routes, and the car ground to a halt with no electrics. No dash lights, no lights on the alarm code panel. Waited a few seconds and it restarted as normal and got me home.

I hate intermittent faults and until I have confidence in the car, I wont be going anywhere dodgy that would need another 4x4 to recover me.

I am hoping it is just a loose battery terminal. Battery is only six months old.

Any suggestions for what to look for in the morning please? Vehicle is a Suzuki Vitara .

General Discussion Area / Vettel’s successor?
« on: 28 July 2022, 19:09:44 »
Good on him retiring at the end of the season.

Who are Aston going to get to replace him?

I suspect Mick Schumacher but think that Alonso would be a better fit. Then when Alonso retires, Lance Stroll and the car might just have developed to the point where he could win races or even a championship.

What do the team think?

General Discussion Area / Our solar electric
« on: 14 July 2022, 14:29:56 »
Living in a sunny country and with prices of kit coming down plus electric going up, we took the plunge.

Ordered in April. Lots of delays. Hardest thing was getting a digger to dig four holes of a cu metre each. All the diggers are making good money working on the myriad of huge solar farms.

Anyway. We have a stand alone frame 5 x 4 metres , high enough to park a transit under. 16 panels ((2 by 1 m).   7.5 kw, a similar sized invertor and batteres. The latter are still quite expensive.

Still got mains connection but that is just for security. Also not worth disconnecting as reconnection costs a fortune here and takes ages. So will still be paying monthly standing charge.

Quite a complex install as we have 3 phase electric and a three phase well pump for irrigation and swimming pool water. Rural properties are served with 3 phase over twisted bell wire. As a result we can only have 5.5 kw max ( over that it trips)

I keep popping in to see how much is being generated. Any excess goes into the grid and after a wait of months the grid company agrees to pay you a tiny payment. Might be EU grant money available but I wont hold my breath. We do get half price council tax for a couple of years.

Payback? At least ten years but we didn’t do it to save money. We could well be dead before break even day!

Anyone else got panels or their own windmill?

General Discussion Area / Bottled sweat
« on: 16 June 2022, 16:32:27 »
Stephs packed lunch today had some female internet influencer who sells stuff to her fans.

Bottled farts at up to 500 dollars was very popular. The process was to douse a petal and then insert  into phial for posting out. Despite it being incredibly popular she had to stop as her diet was causing that much gas that she thought she was going to have a heart attack ( fart attack maybe).

So she is now selling her fans breast sweat. She has to sit out in the sun . ….well you can imagine the harvesting and packaging process.

Ever think you spent a life in the wrong job! It is amazing the perversions that are out there.

Anyone got anything similar?

General Discussion Area / Fuel- supermarket v premium
« on: 10 June 2022, 17:07:45 »
Actually make that three categories.

1 BP, Shell type garages

2. Supermarket

3. Low cost fuel outlets.

The spread between the three is quite big in Spain. What about the quality? Are we going to see a lot of worn out cars in five years time from using the cheap stuff?  Does it matter which we use?

Is it time for Nato to guarantee free egress and ingress of shipping on humanitarian grounds from Odessa?

Surely Odessa is now key to WW3 by proxy?

General Car Chat / Pikes Peak a la Ken Block
« on: 17 May 2022, 19:37:35 »
“ Introducing: the Hoonipigasus! This is the hill climb beast that I’ll be racing at this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. It’s a Porsche 911 SVSR, built by BBi Autosport in partnership with Mobil 1, and it’s a one-of-a-kind, mid-engine, twin-turbo, 1400hp, AWD, 1000kg, weapon. This meth-fueled monster is intended to be the world’s ultimate Porsche race car build with the sole purpose of trying to win the top class in the 100th running of the legendary PPIHC race. We’ve also teamed up with former pro snowboarder, musician, and internationally acclaimed street artist Trouble (Trevor) Andrew, a.k.a. Gucci Ghost, to launch this incredible new livery on this build. The livery, color, and name pays homage to the infamous 1971 Porsche 917/20 “Pink Pig”. Lots of work and planning went into this, and this project is just incredible!“

Do a google for photos.

Now that sounds like a serious contemnder!

General Discussion Area / Finland

Good thing to have Finland and Sweden in NATO?

Finland have 200,000 soldiers. That is quite a lot compared with say Britain.
Putin won’t be happy. Exactly what he said he didn’t want is happening.

General Discussion Area / Reason why electric has gone up?
« on: 14 April 2022, 10:09:57 »
Why have energy costs actually gone up?

Saw an item on uk news about dire straights of swimming pools. Costs of water, chemicals and heating have gone up dramatically. The end result will no doubt be more closures - maybe even a half. So an unexpected consequence will be lower health rates, more drownings in years to come from folk who never learned to swim.

In the 80’s I used to go once a week to the fabulous Victorian Erdington baths. Great memories. Scarborough doesn’t even have any public baths/ swimming pools any more . Only the place that costs something like £80 for a family to get in for the day
