Fondue
« on: 04 October 2019, 22:24:42 »

Anyone old enough to remember fondue?

Opened a box last week with a complete fondue set. Last used at least twenty years ago.

So we got some gruyere and Emmental , white wine etc.

It will probably be another twenty years before we get it out again. Might sell it on ebay.  Stillgot the original box!

Anyone still use a fondue set regularly?Maybe something more adventurous like cooking meat in boiling oli or strawberries in molten chocolate?

1979 iirc.
At a dinner party given by the bil of a greatly missed friend.
A great palaver over a bit of cheese.
Make a great evening for a retro period dressed party though.

Nah, ......sell it.
Don.

I am surprised you don't remember when you were younger in medieval times, boiling oil was poured on unwelcome visitors to your castle.  ;D

Blue nun. Is that still available?

After eight mint and a creme de menthe from a bottle in the depths of the drinks cupboard from that exotic holiday abroad.

Blue nun was a Liebfraumilch if I remember correctly, maidens pisswater. A small bottle of Nutcracker mixed with cider for the proper lads.  ;D

We had one when I was little, as we'd been throughout Europe etc, and Mum liked to think she was all posh ;D

I only ever remember it coming out a few times, and only once used properly for fondue rather than some of Mum's other strange concoctions at the time.

I get a strange feeling she may still have the set, as a bit of an ornament, on her dining room unit.  I'll pay more attention next time.

I know we've got one like that. It's never been used as Dad is more interested in state of the French polish on the table.

I went to a dinner party a few years ago where they had the fondue full of hot oil in the middle of the table and plates of different meats.  :)

We each had a skewer and could choose and cook our own meat. Accompanied with a jacket potato and salad it was a tasty meal, and a fun evening.  :y

So you dip your meat in hot oil? Very strange...
