I'm not up to doing the maths exactly, I'm not too well today (Ahhhhhhh), but I do around 17000 miles a year. If I get around 30mpg from a petrol and 45mpg from a diesel, that's a few shillings saved, even taking into account the 3-5p difference in price per litre (or 14 to 22p a gallon).

Trying doing 40k+!

Diesel is the only option (particularly with big exec lumps)  :( :( :(

To answer my own question...

Of 1,957 brand new, 2.0+ diesels nationally on Autotrader:

577 are SUVs.
3 are less than £20k
52 are between £20 and 25k
300 are between £25 and 30k

Effectively zero choice in a market of 6,225.
They are still making diesel astra estates, 1.6, 135bhp, 0-60 in around 9 seconds, 50ish mpg. When mine has had it, probably in about three or four years, that is my next car sorted.  :)

This sounds most exciting. I'll bet you hardly sleep at night with mounting anticipation. :) ;)

I think he's only planning on driving it at this stage.  ::)

Had a look at this today...Very nice if a little over budget

https://www.inchcape.co.uk/cars/used-cars/used-car-listing/mercedes-benz-e-class-amg-night-edition-AD15FTO/?InchcapeId=3305142

Nice offer that if bought on finance (needs 12k initially, then at least 4k for 10 months) you get a 3 year warranty

Very nice. My neighbour has one the same as that on a 65 plate. He's had it from new and he's never mentioned having any grief with it. I've been looking myself recently and narrowed it down to a late Skoda Superb or a Transit Custom double cab.  :)

Hard to believe that even a car like that doesn't come with a spare wheel. Lovely motor though.

It's the brand that people buy into.

I bought six pairs of 'Slazenger' socks. Once a well known brand. They cost £3.

Probably manufactured by 6 year old Indian boys and girls.
