Hi everyone,
OK, so never had a problem with the old girl yet 
But now? the "check coolant level" flashed up, once week before last, duly topped it up, and again yesterday. I put a drop of water in the tank, that put off the warning sign. but lo and behold, it came back on 4 miles down the road in York, as I reversed into a parking bay at a pub to meet someone, I noticed a water trail that the car had left.
The temp gauge was fine, as always, there was hot air, as should be.... but whilst having a look for a split hose under the bonnet, I though, check the oil filler cap, and sure as eggs are eggs, mayo on it, that was not there the other week.

So, any suggestions as to what it may be, and IF its is the cylinder head 
 anyone want to do it, will travel from here for a day or 2

Defo not HG with JUST the Mayo as a symptom. Ignore Mayo on filler cap. Just means short journeys and condensation in the cooler air of the filler neck that sits away from the engine.

Check HBV back of engine under scuttle for leaks, with cc set in hi and then lo. If ok report back

Heater by pass valve. TIS a little bugger for leaks.

To add. There are other causes, but hbv most common.

will have  a gander at it tomorrow at work,
 am putting the car up on a ramp as well, to blow compressed air up the passenger side scuttle drain pipe, as I can not get my hand down to make sure its clean, as I do not want another carpet wetting again

 have looked at 4 various sites, and nothing is found, it says

Local dealer probably carries it as a stock item

I keep a spare in the boot. In the same box as the spare crank sensor.

well just rang my local dealer (bristol street motors) a mile away from here, and they want........ £14 plus VAT, bloody good is that. just need to fit it then, and hopefully that will stop me having to fill the reservoir every 2 days
