General Discussion Area / U.K. Rail Strike
« on: 20 June 2022, 18:26:26 »
So the unions have decided to have their members come out on strike tomorrow.

After hearing various reports about rail workers current salaries I have found this:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/61840077#:~:text=Rail%20construction%20and%20maintenance%20operatives,and%20tram%20drivers%20%2D%20%C2%A359%2C189

So as the majority of the population, who are on a average wage far lower than railway staff, are fighting higher living costs these unions believe their members are hard done by.  The industry has survived over the last two years by way of multi-billion pound injections of cash by the U.K. Government.  But these workers still want a 7% increase across the board.

I really wonder what is going on.  Do they realise that this action could scare away the increased passenger numbers witnessed post-pandemic, but well short of the numbers before?  Do they think this will help them in their cause of keeping old, and expensive, railway practices going when the railway companies cannot improve financial viability by letting them do so?

Perhaps this strike will lead to an outcome similar to that experienced by the coal miners 40 years ago. In my opinion, it is plain stupidity and greed and will piss off the very people that railway workers depend on; the passengers, just at a time when they are trying to keep sane over vastly increased costs of a rail ticket.  The Government will also be pissed off and could really bring down an axe on any further support >:(

But, what do you all, or importantly, the younger regular users of the railways in your families, think about all this? :(

General Car Chat / Car of My Dreams
« on: 09 June 2022, 17:15:40 »
At last, I really have seen the car of my dreams that would more than satisfy me in 2022 onwards!  :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

I have always, since childhood, wanted a Bentley, but yesterday I saw on a local road a 2022 Bentley Bentayga V8.  It was of course on a private plate, and retailed by Jack Barclay who had a Rolls Royce and Bentley dealership in Bromley Kent when I was in my teens.  I certainly had road presence, in black and a real Bently chunk of expensive metal! 8) 8) 8) 8)

The glossy brochure, a must see!! -   https://www.bentleymotors.com/en/models/bentayga/bentayga-s.html?cid=UK-M-22-CCM-ALWAYS-GOOG&utm_audience=Other&utm_author=phd&utm_campaign=evergreen&utm_content=alwaysonsearch2022&utm_date=010122&utm_funnel=act&utm_medium=cpc&utm_mediumtype=pd&utm_product=carsnewbentayga&utm_persona=all&utm_source=other&utm_value=na&gclid=CjwKCAjwtIaVBhBkEiwAsr7-cwS9XLwj95akDHt1gy2THda-hzUNP-QRxY7HbUPDhvD_o-mFgxbwvRoCBGYQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

...............and the MPG is on a par with my Omega!! :D :D :D

A snip at £179,600 I will have one of those one day............................well, a girl can still dream! ::) ::) ;D ;)

« on: 13 February 2022, 12:14:52 »

Well, Ben Wallace has stated what I and many have been thinking for the last few weeks:

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/ukraine-crisis-whiff-of-munich-warning-from-ben-wallace-b7mjflxln

I know how some on here love me for mentioning Hitler! ;D

The seriousness of the current situation cannot be underestimated though and the parallels with 1938 are all too obvious. :(

General Car Chat / Rear Brakes Question
« on: 19 January 2022, 12:22:29 »
As you may have noted from my other thread a major service I have just carried out, where I have yet again adjusted both the handbrake cable and rear brakes,  out of interest I am wondering why we have to adjust both together?

As the handbrake cable is a separate adjustment to the rear shoes, why is it not advisable to just adjust the handbrake cable to achieve the optimum "5 clicks"?

I have faithfully followed the guide on every Omega I have owned, but although to some it may be a stupid question, what is the technical answer please. ??? ??? ;)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Post New Dis Pack Woes
« on: 17 January 2022, 15:48:03 »
Thanks to the great advice I received in my other thread on the major service and a faulty 2-4 -6 plugs Dis Pack / Coil Pack, I was able to quickly fit a new one today, without removing the plenum, but removing the cable tray.  Why I had not done that before on this Omega, when I had on a previous one, I do not know!! ::) ::) ::)

However, the management light for the exhaust / emissions is staying on when I start the car, and stays on when driving, even though all cylinders are now firing correctly. :( :(

Any ideas please on what this means / what I must do please? ??? ??? ???

The MOT is now due so I need to fix this. ;)

General Car Chat / Major Service Woe or Two
« on: 12 January 2022, 17:14:50 »
Carried out my yearly service today, but the major one that I do every four years based on the mileage I do.

Must be getting older as everything I did was more difficult.   Usual trouble in getting to spark plug 6, but after much cursing the idiots who designed so much in the way of this plug that I have wasted hours on over the years, I finally extracted it.  But, worse to come, was when I found two of the rubber boots on the DIS Pack, on that side of the engine, had split, then the spring contact on one of them became detached from the unit, and fell off somewhere at the front of the engine; lost for now, even after much searching with a torch!!

Anyway, made temporary repairs to the two boots, then fashioned a new spring from copper wire I have in stock.  Put it all back together, fired up the engine and all works!

But, as I know my repairs are temp., contacted my Vx dealer for a new DIS Pack;  Part no 9118115 - Bosch 0221503027 Not available!!!  Even if they were, ONE would be £300+  !!!! :o :o :o

Anyway, after ringing around, looked up the part on Amazon and have now ordered via them the Bosch one from the Green Spark Plug Co. for £97-19 with Prime delivery.  I could have obtained a Starline DIS Pack from ECP for £76-55, but I much prefer an original Bosch.

So now after re-fitting the plenum and everything else, I can now look forward to stripping it all down again!! ::) ::) ::)

I also know I have a slight exhaust pipe leak which I am getting fully underneath the car tomorrow to check out.  This must be done as my MOT is due early February, so more bloody expense!

Owning a 18.5 year old Omega is never going to be easy, nor cheap, but hey ho, the one great thing I discovered today was there NO OIL in the spark plug holes.  Last time the breathers were fully cleaned it was by Serek when he replaced the cam cover gaskets, and cam belt to boot.  He must have done the great job I believed he had done! 8) 8) 8)  Needless to say I have fully cleaned ouit the breathers today.

I just wish Serek and SOS were closer, although he should be doing the cam belt this year. ;)

General Discussion Area / Oh Boris, oh Boris.Third Strike
« on: 11 January 2022, 14:58:16 »
So now Boris is accused of being involved in an alleged gathering on 20 May 2020 at Downing Street, during the then lockdown, for drinks in the garden, with 100 being invited, but 40 turning up.

So Boris is on the back foot again! May this be his last strike, that a lot of Conservative MP's have been on about since the first "scandal" that of course he has denied, and has to go?

How much more stupidity can this bumbler be involved in before he does go? ::) ::) >:(

Omega General Help / Pollen & Air Filters
« on: 10 December 2021, 17:44:36 »
I am about to give my 3.2 a major service.  But when I asked my Vx dealer to order me the Pollen and Air filters, they stated what many have already found, they are "No longer available" ! :P

As many I believe have now tried and tested the non-Vx alternatives of these, can anyone recommend the best that I can now find please? ;)

General Discussion Area / A Very Important Day In History
« on: 07 December 2021, 11:58:21 »
As I Write. in 6 hours 02 minutes (Hawaii) time at 0800, 80 years ago today in 1941, the Japanese attacked the United States Pacific Naval Fleet at Pearl Harbour.

A tremendous day in history that altered the course of the Second World War, which would eventually save the British, and the rest of Europe and their democracies, so we can today in Britain continue to speak English, and created two new World super powers, displacing the old European Empires for good.

Four days from this day in 1941, on the 11th December, Hitler will seal the fate of the Third Reich which had on the previous 22nd June had made a crucial mistake by invading the Soviet Union, declared war on the USA.

The rest is history and means we have the freedoms of today. :y :y

May we remember the total of 2,403 Americans killed that day, and the millions of many nationalities overall who would die during the war, before this date and after. :'( :'( :'(

General Discussion Area / Another one gone
« on: 22 November 2021, 17:24:40 »
Yet another energy supplier has gone to the wall.  This time it is Bulb. Well into administration that is, but who is going to take them on in that crisis hit industry?

So the estimated cost of these failures for the rest of us is going to climb from £100 for the year as the costs get passed on :( :(

So another legend of football's heading elite has now been diagnosed with dementia. :'( :'(

How many more of these legends, that I even recognised in the past, will go down with this terrible condition? :o :o :'( :'(

Those very hard and heavy leather footballs of those days have certainly taken their toll of many great footballers! >:(

General Car Chat / Shortage of Second Hand Cars
« on: 12 August 2021, 16:03:27 »
Some of you may know this already, but apparently their is a severe shortage of second hand cars at main dealers.

Whilst speaking today to an old friend who has worked in the main dealer business for decades, he says he has never seen anything like it.  His dealer and the others, like Vauxhall that he used to work for, just cannot find the stock.  Many people are now just doing what many on here are doing; keeping their old cars running for years longer. No one can afford the electric of hybrid cars, and as he says the likes of Ford have stopped supplying new petrol engined version of their models, thus increasing the desire of many to keep their old models.

Perhaps this is old news, and helps to explain the rocketing prices of second hand cars, but come 2030 what will we poor old sods being doing? Maybe my "classic" Omega will be worth £5,000!! ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;)
