VDO & Delco - What's the difference?
« on: 06 March 2008, 15:42:45 »

Been having a look at Ebay for a CDR500 to replace the cassette player and noticed that there are two distinct types, VDO and Delco.

Is there any significant difference between the two of them? I think the VDO is the more modern type.

Delco more common - VDO more reliable

Based solely on the numbers we have seen here for repair - nothing else.

SiemensVDO is the modern version with nothing more than a new fascia graphic

All are interchangeable with each other

AIRC Delco is Vauxhalls 'brand' for parts.

For example batteries branded delco are made for Vauxhall by a well known manufacturer.

In this instance VDO will have manufactured the unit for Vauxhall and branded it Delco.

"AIRC Delco is Vauxhalls 'brand' for parts."

It is actually AC Delco who happen to be one of the OE supplier to Vaux for parts like batteries and oil filters.  Air filters I think, are Mann.

Definately not !

Delco indeed add their name and badge to many service parts, both aftermarket and OEM, but these are not limited to Vauxhall, but may (?) be limited to General Motors. The Delco CDR500 and the VDO CDR500 share virtually no common parts with the exception that they share the same front fascia cosmetically as that was the design brief from vauxhall - whoever made it, had to make it look the same.

The VDO and SiemensVDO are identical and made from the company that took over from Philips, but Delco actually manufacture their own version, and also make OEM units for VAG as well as others.
