Title: Bad earth?
Post by: BazaJT on 01 May 2018, 08:00:25
The day the new radiator went on the speedo and rev counter stopped working-rest of it worked fine and the radio wouldn't recognize that it had a cd in it,also the display thing which was on instant consumption worked.I've recently had the battery off to charge it up[went flat due to lack of use]Battery went back on and all last week and yesterday morning speedo/rev counter were working as they should but the radio wouldn't go past displaying the word safe.Last night the speedo/rev counter didn't work again.I've tried re-seating binnacle to no avail. Is this a sign the clocks are fubar or that there's a bad earth? Are speedo/rev counter and radio problems likely to be related or separate issues? How[in laymans terms please]would I set about checking for a bad earth?

Without being in front of the car, that's a difficult call, but as a first move I would check EVERYTHING that you moved and/or disconnected when changing the radiator, even if you don't think that it could possibly cause your problems.

Having driven home last night without speedo/rev counter, this morning they worked again then when I parked it and switched off the rev counter needle "fluttered" against its stop and a very faint ticking noise could be heard keeping time with the flutter, then again this evening no speedo/rev counter.Luckily I'm only doing about 3mls each way and that's in traffic,so I figure until it's sorted if I'm keeping pace with everyone else I'm not going to be far wrong.

So then been down to the lock up first off I made sure all electrical connections unplugged[or even possibly just disturbed]for radiator replacement were seated home properly and tight-they seemed to be.Next went to the 3 plugs DG pointed out and did the same, then started the car,rev counter worked [but as it has done intermittently before now I'm not yet ready to declare victory]one thing I did notice was that while it's been playing up the idle speed shown on the rev counter was slightly above 500 whereas now it's slightly below 500 which is where it was pre radiator replacement so maybe the signs are hopeful.I also got the radio to accept the code but when going to CD the word error appeared on the display so I ejected the cartridge and now it just keeps ejecting it when I try to put it back in >:( Still got to make up my mind whether to try and source another Bose CCR 2006[they seem expensive given their age]or go through the faff of putting in a different HU.

Tapping into the CDC connection is the easiest way to get sounds to work with Bose, as the head unit processes the signal which it sends to the amp :y

Keep factory look whilst adding audio options  :y
