General Discussion Area / Time to move on
« on: 01 July 2019, 15:49:00 »
I hardly post on here any more due to the tone of some of the subjects and the way there are discussed by some on here.  I am staying away from conflict for one reason or another and I have little time to devote to being a keyboard warrior these days.

I'll leave my account active for those who wish to PM me with their mobile numbers or other means by which one wishes to stay in touch.  I'll close it properly in a few days.  I am still open to curry night (hint hint) :D

I do not want a discussion on this or that reason for my going (such threads are debilitating) so admin please lock this thread as soon as you read it.  I'm not looking for anything, or looking to spark a discussion about this or that so any thread searching for such would be futile.

Good luck everyone, see you anon.

The Americans have form for rebuilding planes in the name of development.

Several variations of the 707/720 have been rebuilt a few times over the years.

And Britain made the Nimrod out of the Comet :D ;)

Is that proof that you can't polish a turd?

£126 million is a big fine. Customers will get back £50 odd each...........over the next five years  ::)

Apparently customers will get a reduction of a full £1 each month off their bills......over the next 5 years. :-X
I would rather the money was paid to repair the damage done to the environment.  120 mil would go a long way to cleaning up rivers and the sea.  If we had more protected mussle beds  the difference it would make to our beaches !

Naughty boys.

How did they get away with it for so long? :-\

When regulators let/force companies to perform duties they should be doing themselves there are always going to be those who take the wee wee.  The same happened at Boeing where the FAA, in a bid to save money, decided to leave around 80% of the regulatory checks for the manufacturer to perform.  :-X

Wocka-wocka bird 8) My favourite 'chopper'.  I was doing some work on a flight sim once and got a chance to fly it, very easy compared to a Gazelle that's for sure.  They are great fun as a passenger too in the right hands.  Aerobatics in them was great fun until someone spued all over everyone strapped down to the floor (about 30 of us with kit)

Having spent nearly 8 months living next to the hospital landing pad in Afghan I still find their distinctive sound soothing, they always bring a smile to my face anyway.

don't any of these electric cars have their drive motors built into their wheel hubs? It's seems the most logical place to put them if you're building an electric car from scratch.

Some do but most drive a single axle for cost reasons.  The i-pace has two motors one for each pair of wheels.  The leaf motor sat in the place of the engine and drove the front wheels through a diff (with a fack load of torque 8) )

A mate of mine did it with a Westfield...

Looks like it was missing a bit of weight in front resulting in more understeer?

I have always disliked the man but I do respect the office which the wife does understand even if it draws a little ire from her from time to time.  She is a full-on democrat in a family of Midwestern Neo-Conservative Republicans which makes for a lot of banter around politics at the best of times and a lot of friction when politics heats up.  At Thanksgiving last year we both went out to Wisconsin and I wore a T-Shirt which read:

Make America Great Britain Again!

Which everyone loved.  Some of my wife's uncles have asked me to get them one!  ;D

About a year after the last US Election a predicted that, against my wishes, Trump would win a second term.  'Banter Biden' or 'Socialist Sanders' will win the Democrat ticket, Uncle Joe is too old and Sanders causes an almost volcanic reaction with everyone right of centre and many of those in the middle as well.  Everyone knows you win elections in the centre and all the polling suggests neither appeal to the swing vote even those who are disallusioned with Trump.

I dislike most of Trump's policies and those that I agree with in some way could be achieved in a much more effective way than his bull in a China shop method which alientates the USA on the world stage.  If I was to be a voter in the next US election I am not sure which way I would go.

I think you will find that the fault can be traced all the way back to when you decided to purchase a French car :D

For half an hour. First time in three days. I hear Lord Opti's country seat has been inundated.

It's wetter than a mermaid's lady passage, but for once it is due to the weather :D

I think we should at least try our best and preferably as soon as possible.

An 80% solution on-time is better than a 100% solution that is late.
