General Discussion Area / I'm on tablets.
« on: Today at 12:33:44 »
My laptop has suffered a mishap and is no more.😥......the less said the better. :'(

So, for now, I am using a ten inch Amazon Fire Tablet.

Once you get the hang of the smaller size and lack of keypad it's not too difficult to use. I paid 120 with a 30 money off voucher.

I may need help because I find myself strangely attracted to Alexa..... :-*

I'm currently looking for a new phone but I don't need one that comes with all the bells and whistles and costs 500 plus.

Is this any good?.....or does it rely on technology from the Victorian era?

I wonder if STMO sourced the phones for the council as a gesture of goodwill. ::) ::)

General Car Chat / Vauxhall Signum......appreciating asset.
« on: 07 March 2019, 12:39:17 »
Last week WBAC valued the mighty 2007 Signum 2.8T at a paltry 400.

This week they have come to the conclusion it is in fact a future classic, and have raised their offer to improvement of some 17.5%. :y

The sky is now the limit. :)

General Car Chat / More warranty work for the Tata.
« on: 04 March 2019, 15:09:59 »
Both of my XFR's have had warranty work undertaken for a fault with the central locking system. The car I now own had warranty work for a wing mirror that wouldn't fold and sounded like a loose nut in a food blender. 600 apparently.

Now both bonnet support struts have gone tits up. Luckily my head was not under the bonnet when they failed. :)

The 2 year warranty runs out in September. Any further repairs could prove expensive after that.

Time for a new car perhaps?

I imagine the plate is worth more than the car.

General Car Chat / Hey.....Mr Beanz.

I'd be interested to know your initial impression of the new derv-drinker Merc.

That young Tunnie fella claimed about 75 MPG for his derv Passat. ;)

General Car Chat / MOT pass for the Tata.
« on: 21 February 2019, 16:49:42 »
.......and no advisories for the Indian.....which I would expect with only 14000 miles under her wheels. :y

The car now requires (except it doesn't) her next service from Jaguar. This is the major 4 year/64000 mile service. Initial response from the dealers start with a figure well north of 500, but using Jaguar 3+ service menu the same service can be had for 285.

For this I will get the usual oil/filter change plus new air filters (2) new pollen filter and new fuel filter. Probably not a lot different to what it would cost for a a Astramondeofocusgolf. :)

General Discussion Area / Mrs May back to wag a finger at the EU.
« on: 30 January 2019, 12:31:24 »
Apparently she has found a way to solve the problem of the backstop.Well done Theresa..... ::) ::) ::)

Anyone know what the alternative solution is?

Does she know?

Does it exist?

General Discussion Area / Big vote tomorrow.
« on: 14 January 2019, 17:00:48 »
I have a sneaking suspicion Theresa will get this 'watery Brino' through parliament.

I'm wondering if some MP's are starting to lose their nerve with all this talk of 'No Deal being the end of the world'.

Should be interesting. :)

General Car Chat / Baggy leather seats.
« on: 13 January 2019, 11:30:14 »
The Tata has barely 14000 miles beneath her wheels but the leather front seats have become quite 'baggy' of late. My old XFR was sold with 50,000 miles on the clock and the seats were still nice and tight.

I did 'cure the problem' by spending 20 minutes with a hair dryer. This made the leather properly taut again but only for a couple of days.

Any ideas for a permanent fix?

Well done TB. :y

I may make a  new 'sexy Shami' avatar just for you. :)

General Car Chat / PCP question.
« on: 04 January 2019, 10:06:10 »
Who decides the amount of equity available at the end of a PCP deal?*

*Presumably this will not apply to lorry fuel cars which are probably worth less than the GFV.

General Car Chat / PCP GFV question?
« on: 03 January 2019, 12:29:31 »
If, for example, the GFV is 34000 after 2 years, but the car is worth around 45-47000, can the excess be used for anything other the the deposit on another PCP/finance deal?
