Referring to the ongoing protests about raising pension age to an astonishingly high 64. The poor mites. Haven’t they seen retirement age in other countries around them.

Might it bring down Macrons government? If so then we will no doubt see the axis of power in the EU shift further East.

Anyone had any experience setting one of these £60 devices please?

This is what I had hoped to achieve. Put one on my elderly dads back door in Yorkshire so that when we send deliveries we can liaise with the courier and so on from here in Spain.

Ideally I would be there to install and set up with my mobile present. None of my family are tech literate or interested. The device has just sat in its box at my dads.I havent got a uk trip scheduled.

I can think of several solutions. Eg

1 Send my phone to UK and pay a handyman to set it up and then send my phone back.

2 Have the device sent to Spain and set it up on my WiFi and then send it back but that would then involve a handyman pairing  it to my dads wifi ( I have the wifi password here) . Would that be easy?

3. Have the device set up on a.n. Others phone eg handyman and then somehow set it up on mine without the phone leaving Spain and then hope a.n.Other removes it from their phone.

4. Something else I havent thought of.

There are a couple of enablers. An elderly relative is visiting us shortly from UK and could bring the device and return it.

Any helpful suggestions gratefully received! TIA

So, how will Putin celebrate ( perhaps mark might be more approriate) 12 months since he invaded Ukraine?

A massive assault?

A test firing of the hypersonic missile during the joint naval venture ( China, Russia and South Africa) ?

Any thoughts on what it might be?

US General describes Britains army as barely tier2 and not tier 1.

Comes as a bit of shock.

He suggests spending an extra £3 bn a year. More pressure on the tax payer.

General Discussion Area / 4G congestion advice
« on: 23 January 2023, 00:15:14 »
We live in the sticks and so have limited choice of internet. No copper or fibre and never will be.

We have 4G internet ( SIM in a router) and it works . However in the last four weeks it has become noticeably useless. I suspect more of our neighbours are either streaming tv , gaming etc.

I am going to prod our village “ mayor” to make noises on our behalf to the phone company. It would be handy to arm him with what the solution is. Anyone tech savvy please?  Another rack of cards?

There are only around 35 occupied houses so maybe 60 users. Being blunt the phone co  wont give a damn being as it is Spain but I feel I have to do something as we have given up trying to stream TV.. Even posting this is a trial at 1 am our time.

We are a pretty angry lot on here. Thought I would start a thread where we could put things that have got our goat.

This is mine for today. I keep seeing CE in relation to dates eg Battle of Hastings 1066 CE not 1066 AD. I am not religious but why the need to change a system that works? CE stands for common era!

Some friends in the UK that have a totally electric house ( although they have just had a log burner installed) are clocking up around £15 a day! Yesterday was £16.80.

Is that the norm? What is yours during this cold spell?

No beer. Plenty of worker deaths ( 5600 so far)- truly astonishing amount.

Human rights.

I wouldn’t be surprised if one or more European countries pull out during the tournament .

Which comes first , sporting event and then changes or changes then acceptance.?

Good on Joe Lycett shredding his money.

I shan’t be watching.

If anyone missed it due to time it was shown, it is worth a watch on catchup.

He maybe a world champion ( helped by team cheating and FIA assistance) but he showed his colours yesterday. His no compromise with Hamilton presumably in an effort to deny Hamilton a win this season. Well done the FIA giving him a five second penalty.

The icing on the cake came when he over ruled the team order to let Perez past. What a spoilt brat. No I in team. All to do with Monaco where Perez apparently deliberately crashed to improve his chances in the actual race……. Will there now be a retrospective penalty from the FIA. This vitriol and hatred months on from the event despite all Perez has done as Verstappens wingman.

Plenty for her to get her teeth into until she makes the next mistake……

No libellous comments please.

One of our log burners grates broke in half. The model is now obsolete. The best the company could offer is a current model BUT it has two one inch lugs to remove which is my job.

I have a decent Bosch large angle grinder. Will a premium” diamante”? metal cutting disc do the job? Any tips? Wet the job? Oil it?
