My son sent me a link[I don't know how to repeat them onto here] to an event that took place in America. This was a fun run covering a distance of 0.5K-yes that's correct half a kilometre-which at the half way point had a rest stop where there was available beer, donuts and a smoking area :D Think I'll have to get into training for that one,it sounds like my kind of event ;D :y

General Car Chat / Had to be a winner
« on: 25 September 2019, 17:48:54 »
A car that had a "race proven" engine a sports gearbox, positive rack and pinion steering with a body torsionally stiffer than a Land Rover, surely we're on to a winner here? Well the engine was the 1800 MGB lump and the gearbox a 4speed TR6 unit and the car was called Marina

This begins today, this time around it's being held in japan so if you're wanting to watch it the time difference will of course need taking into account.Someone over there is taking it seriously as the other day a crowd of 15,000 gathered to watch the Welsh team training :o

General Discussion Area / Interesting read
« on: 19 September 2019, 17:07:33 »
For those interested in aviation matters.I've just finished reading Victor Boys by Tony Blackman[he also authored Vulcan Test Pilot]the book contains many anecdotes from the people who crewed these wonderful aircraft.Often overlooked in favour of the Vulcan the Victor did more than sterling service throughout its life[which was longer than the service life of the Vulcan]and without which it's more than likely that the Black Buck operations against the Argentinians[certainly Black Buck 1 couldn't have taken place without them]wouldn't have been possible. Also playing a major role in the gulf when Iraq invaded Kuwait not just "in theatre" but also in helping the fast jets to/from the gulf in the first place. Some very long hours were spent on a lot of these sorties.A tribute to the aircraft, their crews[both air and ground]and the superb training they went through. :y

All the beans used for baked beans are imported into the country, however the University of Warwick are harvesting the first ever crop of such beans grown in this country. The signs so far -although further testing is required to see how they fare in the canning process etc-are positive. So pretty soon we could go some way towards being more self sufficient-at least as far as baked beans go :y

Omega General Help / Which bit[s]?
« on: 18 September 2019, 18:15:11 »
Before I tear it all down again to try and sort this[basically by chucking yet more new parts at it]does anyone have an idea of which bit might need changing? Start the car from cold and temp gauge gradually rises until it hits a registered 90 then drops slightly[obviously thermostat opening]before climbing slowly back up until it registers just over 90 at which point all three fans start up together. This drops the temp back to 90 but will not go lower and the fans won't shut off until after the engine is stopped.A new radiator was fitted last year along with new fan switches and also new coolant temperature sensor and temperature sender were fitted along with a new thermostat.Could one or more of these be faulty?if so is there anyway to tell which one other than by substitution?Could it be poor coolant flow caused by poor water pump performance?

In yesterdays free practice/qualifying for MotoGP[live on BT Sport today highlights on Quest channel tomorrow 6pm to 7pm and again 11pm to midnight] and again today in morning warm up the riders were entering the pits and instead of having tyres changed were changing bikes.I can see how doing this would save pit time and therefore increase track time bit it has always been said that even given two bikes it exactly the same set up that riders can tell the difference between their "number 1 bike" and their "number 2 bike"so changing bikes part way through particularly qualifying seems a strange move and so far none of the commentators have an explanation for this move either.

General Discussion Area / Coincidence or prophesy?
« on: 05 September 2019, 21:20:29 »
Today I've read a short story[at one time called a novella]titled Futility which at the outset describes a ship called the Titan. In the story this ship is the largest most opulent ocean liner built-800ft long,75,000 tons displacement and a speed of 25 knots.Said to be virtually unsinkable with automatic water tight doors and able to stay afloat with her first 9 compartments flooded.Carrying the bare minimum number of lifeboats required by law and nowhere near enough for her 2,000 passengers plus crew. This work of fiction goes on to describe how on her third Atlantic crossing-from New York to Southampton-while travelling at high speed in fog in the month of April she hits an iceberg and sinks with all but a handful of survivors to tell the tale.Sound vaguely familiar? Some of the story[notably the tonnage of the ship]was subsequently changed after April 1912.The amazing thing is that Morgan Robertson wrote this story in 1898!! 14yrs before the Titanic disaster, pure coincidence or some kind of eerie prophecy?

General Discussion Area / Mainly bike weekend
« on: 26 August 2019, 19:09:45 »
This weekend has for me been mainly about motorbikes.Yesterday I was in Hornsea for the annual Bikefest[there were a couple of American cars on display too]then when I got home and sorted round I watched the MotoGP races from Silverstone that I'd recorded.Today I was at the other end of town[a 3ml journey]for another bike show.Lots of Harleys in evidence and plenty of modified bikes on show. One trike had an Essex V6 powerplant while a second had an Audi 4.2 V8 and a third a supercharged Jaguar V8.Altogether a very enjoyable couple of days and with tremendous weather too :y

General Car Chat / DTM
« on: 26 August 2019, 09:03:11 »
Before heading out for the day yesterday I saw[first time in years] on TV one of the German DTM races, these don't seem as popular manufacturer wise as they once did.Out of a grid of 18 cars there were 8 Audi 6 BMW and 4 Astons.I remember there used to be Mercs,Opels etc.,is it a dying series?

On most posts by members on here at the bottom right  there is a line "report to moderator" and then "logged" where my posts seem to have the number 81.101.125.127 instead of logged and some[of mine] also have the "modify" symbol above the 127. yet others of mine don't have the modify symbol yet I'm doing the same things to all my posts,so why the differences?

General Discussion Area / Smilies
« on: 15 August 2019, 08:08:01 »
I seem to have lost the ability to add smilies to my posts. When I click on preview the blinking bar disappears from the end of the text I've typed and clicking on any given smiley has no effect.I then have to left click to get the blinking bar back on screen before continuing to type. This only seems to have happened since the last update or shortly after. So how do I get the smilies back?
