Mars bars were a tanner and the size of a house brick when Fruit Salads and Black Jacks were 4 a penny.
You probably wouldn't be able to call them Black Jacks these days, I will  :y ;D ;D ;D

Stop pretending you are younger than me Cleggy! ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D

In the 1958 you got 4 of those to a farthing, 16 to the 1d[/b][/i], so you must remember that! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

Are you sure, Lizzie?. I know that you're talking about 1958......but 16 to the penny. :-* :-* :-*

When I was just a spotty 16 year old I got lucky and bagged myself a beautiful 15 year old girlfriend called Helen.

Her mother was lovely but her father was unpredictable to say the least.

When his daughter was present he was all goodness and light, but as soon as she left the room he pinned me to the wall by my throat and said to me " Lay one finger on my daughter and I'll break every bone in your body"

At this time in my life I was barely 8 stone dripping wet and as  Helen's father was built like a canadian moose I didn't feel inclined to argue.

Needless to say teenage hormones overcame the fear of a 'beating' and the lovely Helen was separated from her knickers just before her sixteenth birthday. :y

Happy days.  :y

Parma Violets, that were 2/6d a quarter in 1967, and sold from a lovely shaped jar, and not to be confused with the modern version sold in a small round packet.

By then I was a counter assistant in a confectioners and I spent my hard earned wages on these beauties when other sweets were about 7d a quarter.  Damned expensive by lovely! :-* :-* :-* :-*

Two and a tanner.......half a crown. Sounds so much better than twelve and a half new pence. :y :y

Do you remember when the 'groat' was legal tender, Lizzie?....... ::) ::) ::) :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

;D ;D ;D No, but I remember the farthing being used! :o :o ;D ;D ;D ;)

That is often what I used when buying 4 Fruit Salads or Black Jacks! :D :D

You must have missed the demise of the groat by a decade or so, Lizzie........ ;D ;D ;D :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Just kidding. :y :-* :-* :-* :-*

10.30pm took swmbo to hospital to have Miss Vamps, in a 2.0L Omega 'Select' Estate....... :D :D

Typical of the female gender took her time, 14 hours, to make an appearance.......... ::) ::)

Where does the time go?  She thinks she is all grown up, with a boyfriend in tow........ :'( :'(

now your life gets fun :-X

I wasn't going to allow boyfriends till she was 35, at least....... ::) ::)

He seems a nice lad...... :o :o dropped them off to go bowling followed by something to eat, while I went to visit swmbo, they had a lovely evening........ :y

In the car on the way home it was party cd on, volume up, they were singing and moving to
the music, it was lovely to see her so happy, especially under the circumstances......... :y :y

....and only then with parental supervision at all times.. ;) ;D ;D
