General Discussion Area / 0 - 60 time?
« on: 24 March 2007, 15:04:41 »
Not that I condone the testing, but....

Sat waiting at a roundabout, I wondered what the 0 - 60 was of mine.  Hardly and ideal place, but what the hell.  So I switched the FC to stopwatch and floored it. I had to feather it round the roundabout slightly, and the exit was an incline (The BP roundabout on the A43 for Tunnie).

My car is bog standard, 3.0l, autobox.

Managed to get the intake off (and reuse the original gaskets Omegatoy :y) and fix the coolant temp sensor.

Also replaced the split EGR pipe, though knackered the EGR itself (stripped thread, though not in the bolt I was doing up at the time)  >:(, so need to go to scrappy at some point, too late to get there now.

Still popping water out of the cap when it gets to 97 ish on the dash gauge...

Not much happened recently, but have put in a new (well, new to car) washer bottle sensor, and replaced the plug for the brake sensor wiring. So thats all the MID errors fixed.

Put in another viscous fan - this one does howl more, and fitted yet another cap.  This one really does seem to be able to hold the pressure, though still starts to weep when temp hits 96 ish.

Temperature now seems to be stable between 94 and 96, though I haven't really pushed it - I suspect it may creep up higher.

CTS not yet fixed, as dealer still hasn't got the gaskets I ordered nearly 3 weeks ago.  I can see what the fault is though, just can't get in with soldering iron.

No, the main fault is it needs a wash and vac ;D

So when you've finished the bathroom (or sent her away for a weekend ;D), fancy showing me how to do the check strap repair.  And fix my sump bolt. And.....

Just seen another engine relay compartment layout from M_DTM.

Thanks for that, they are incredibly useful when chasing electrical problems :y :y

Seem to be able to maintain temperature with:

New rad
Drilled stat
Diesel cap from scrappy
V6 exapnsion bottle
Very weak antifreeze mix

Still losing a small amount of coolant from cap, so maybe cap is knackered?  I do not think the petrol ones which were fitted when I got it, and the QH one, are any good at all.  Even with Omegatoy's cap we lost a bit of coolant, though it was driven harder than I have so far.  We did think it may be leaking from the 'bodge' I'd done to block off the extra hole on the v6 bottle, so Omegatoy did a bit job of blocking. Defo still coming from cap though.

Plans for tomorrow are to put the good stat back it, after testing it somehow (put in a pan of boiling water??), and get antifreeze back to 50:50.

General Discussion Area / Got any spare gaskets - 2.5TD
« on: 14 April 2007, 18:22:09 »
Seeing as the dealer is now saying 'up to 5 weeks' for the bloody gaskets I need, does anyone have a spare set of intake manifold to cylinder head gaskets I can buy?

General Discussion Area / Project TB2 - Update 5

Not much, been busy entertaining the outlaws today.

Got a replacement expansion bottle on (from a V6, so had to bodge on the seperate pipe outlet).  Holds pressure much better. Still cooling issues though, so I am still thinking lack of circulation to take heat away from engine, causing local hotspots in the engine, and local boiling, causing the high pressure and cap to blow.

Anyone strongly disagree?  I am going to go to Motorserv and buy a rad tomorrow morning unless anyone has a better idea...
