General Discussion Area / James and his Fantastic Fingers!
« on: 22 February 2018, 19:28:53 »
James came to me today to replace my water pump and cam belt, for which I am almightily grateful. It was a pleasure to watch the skilled and professional, meticulaous way he went about the task, and in record time - under TWO hours from start to finish!
My local cowbnoy garage would have ripped me off, taken far longer over it and made a lousy job too, no doubt.
What can I say but many,

General Discussion Area / Why?
« on: 19 February 2018, 12:21:16 »
I've just had my Tax Code notice, and once again I am wondering why, after having paid tax all of my working life on my salary, do the robbing sons-of-bachelors tax me AGAIN on my State Pension?
I know that theres F all I can do about it - they make the rules - but why?  >:( :(

Omega General Help / At last I have found it!
« on: 15 February 2018, 18:12:16 »
I've had an unidentifiable coolant leak for the past two weeks which refused to show itself despite my putting a UV tracer dye into the coolant.
It only seems to lose coolant whilst/after being driven, but not on my driveway, but this morning, after driving a couple of miles to a friend's house, I saw it! There was a dribble running down from behind a pulley driven by the aux belt, so I assume it is due to the water pump - there ain't much else near there, is there?
What is OOF wisdom regarding water pumps? I seem to recall hearing on here that VX pumps are no longer recommended.
Is it wise to change the aux belt, changed by James 4 years ago (when he did my cambelt and thermostat too), but with only less than 15k miles on the aux belt?
As this morning it nearly emptied the expansion tank after a 5 mile journey, I cannot take it to Serek; can any other mobile OOFer help, please?

General Discussion Area / Lawn protection.
« on: 31 January 2018, 19:58:21 »
As I have a caravan occupying my driveway, I park my car on the front lawn. With the amoung of rain that we have been having lately, it's more mud than grass now and the car has a tendency to slide back towards the road.
Very disconcerting.
Suggestions please as to how to overcome this problem. I cannot afford to have it block paved or concreted over, and I suspect that paving slabs on a somewhat uneven surface will crack - yes?

How do I put up a picture of my ugly mug on here, like some others have done?
If it works, be afraid, be very.....

General Discussion Area / OOF T-shirts.
« on: 14 January 2018, 16:59:03 »
Are there any plans to produce a polo shirt rather than a T-shirt? I mean on with a tit pocket for all my wordly good (cellphone, bus pass, specs, etc) and ideally a 3-button placket to help a fat block put it on!

General Car Chat / How did Serek do it?
« on: 09 January 2018, 16:12:44 »
When Saint Serek replaced my wishbones, etc, the other week, as part of his attention to detail he checked my screenwashers - no wetness!
Ugh, I thought, I've not long cleaned the filter and cleaned the reservoir, so it should work.
Hearing this, Serek opened the feed connector halfway along the body edge, nearside, and blew down the tube section which led to the reservoir/pump.
Water issued forth from the reservoir filler cap, an d normal operation was restored.
I have two motives for sharing this: firstly, I may not be the only one who didn't know this trick and secondly, it has stopped washing the screen again.
I tried to repeat what Serek did, but after trying several different ploys, I simply could not separate that join.
How did Serek do it?  ??? :-[

General Discussion Area / Merry Christmas and thank you.
« on: 25 December 2017, 09:22:01 »
A very merry Christmas to all OOFers, and may all your MOTs be clear passes!
Also, thank you for all the great help that I have received, both directly from generous souls on here and indirectly by my reading with interest the helpful solutions to the problems of others.
All the best in health and wealth for the New Year, folks!  :y ;D

General Discussion Area / I'm on track at last!
« on: 30 November 2017, 12:16:34 »
Having had my wishbones replaced (thanks Serek), I went to Tyre-Smart (Witham) to have four-wheel alignment done on their Hunter machine, using the Forum figures.
It drives like a new car now - hands-off straight line steering and braking, no problem!
We get trade price as Forum members, so £64 for all adjustments, with rear alignments charged as one job, i.e. one side free.
Oh, and free tea or coffee whilst you wait.....

General Car Chat / I've been to see the Wizard.....
« on: 28 November 2017, 15:15:00 »
.....the Wonderful Wizard of Huntingdon!
My new wishbones expertly fitted, oil and filter changed and sundry other items checked and corrected - well worth the 130 mile/3 hour round trip to have my beloved Omega in good hands.
Thanks, Serek, I really do appreciate what you did for me.  :y :y :y 8)

Omega General Help / I need to have my wishbones fitted......
« on: 21 November 2017, 10:37:56 »
Is there anyone near me (Witham, Essex) who could fit my ATP wishbones, drop links and track rods in exchange for beer vouchers? Or I could come to you, as I only have the roadway/front lawn to work in.

Than ks to Omegod, I now have a nice clear expansion tank, which I went to fit today - yeah, 5 minute job, surely?
THREE hours later, after several scratches and bruises due to battling with those F***ING hoses and clips, it's in, no leaks and all working fine!
The memory of the pain will soon fade and I will have the joy of being able to see the coolant now - even the plain water that I tested it with.
Actually, the job was intended to be flushing out my soon-to-be-replaced ( I hope) radiator, but the pot lady arrived whilst I was undeer the car draining the radiator, so when the tank was empty, I decided to fit the "new" one.
Still, I'm a happy bunny now!  :y ;D 8)
