Thanks for the correction, EMD, but I assumed that was a given anyway!

Yes; you don't need telling that the help and advice freely given on this Forum is invaluable. I certainly would not have been able to run my Omega without it, even though I don't smoke, rarely drink and don't chase women (Um....), so it's my only vice!   :-X

Thanks for that link, and now a stupid question - I suppose that is for only one side?
In which case - OUCH!!!

Yes, good advice, EMD - would those available on ebay be any good, do you (or anyone) know?
I have a non-elastic pension!

The incomparable Serek replaced my cam covers and serviced me a week or so ago, as I have mentioned on here earlier, and having found the plug wells swimming in oil, advised me that the coils were likely to fail when the oil covering dries out and would need to be replaced.
In anticipation of this unhappy event, does anyone have serviceable units for sale, please?

My thoughts exactly, Baza.
Last week, in the pouring rain on the M11, I doubted the wisdom of driving all that way in very slow, congested traffic (took me 3 hours) but clearly it was well worth it to have work done by a perfectionist who knows Omegas inside out and has honesty, integrity and perfect after-service.
But then, you all knew that already.
If there are any members new to the Forum that need work done and live closer than, say 100 miles or so - make that journey to Serek's at Huntingdon, you will never regret it.................

My original post:-

"Last Wednesday, I went to his place to have my cam covers changed as they were leaking over hot exhaust and creating embarrassing smoke, and as service was due, had that done to make the journey more worth while.
He fitted the cam covers that I got from someone on the forum, adjusted the handbrake, changed all filters, including the fuel filter, and new plugs too, cleaned the breathers and of course a new oil filter - all for a good price.
I won’t say how much, because price isn’t the only reason: integrity, careful workmanship and trust that a good and honest job will be done are also important factors.
There was a small cause  for concern, however. After the oil change, Serek spotted a small oil leak from the filter, so he re-seated it and it appeared to stop leaking.
On my way home, the "Chack oil level" message came on and when I looked after arriving home, it was off the bottom of the dipstick.
I messaged the next day, asking what was the most likely cause, so that I could get it sorted locally rather than drive all the way back to him for such an apparently trivial problem and - this is the incredible part - he offered to come to me and fit a new gasket at my place, at no cost to me!
Obviously I couldn't allow him to spend all that time away from his business, never mind the fuel cost, so he is sending me a gasket and I'll get my local garage to fir the gasket. Maybe they will charge be less than an hour's labour?
But honestly, what a man! I know of no other business man who would offer to do that and it shows exactly why he is so well regarded on the forum."

Today's update:-

So, today Serek messaged me saying that rather than send me the gasket and trust another garage to fit it, etc., he would come to me and fit it himself – “Will it be ok for me to come at 7:30 PM?”

At 7:25 he appeared, at 7:50 he was gone, job done! A million thanks, Serek, you are a saint: THAT is the stuff legends are made of!!!!!

Beat that for service, Oofers - not even Kwik-Fit is as good....... ::)

200 miles beats my journey, "nitro", but I'm glad you think it worthwhile, too. It's very difficult to find a garage to trust nowadays, as programmes like "Watchdog" will testufy to, so when you do it's well worth going there.
That day was very wet and I didn't fancy walking around the local shops there for several hours and Serek kindly allowed me to sit in his workshop and watch - nothing to hide, you see, not like some places (K-F?) you could mention.....

Oh dear, that reminds me of something that happened to a former colleague several years ago.
He was in a hurry for a night of passion and in his haste, applied Vick over his condom instead of Vaseline. He of course could not feel it, but on entry, his lady certainly could, and threw him viollently off her and across the room, with screams!
She also worked at my company and she never spoke to him nor went near him for a fortnight!

Yes, that is indeed what happened when I sold it many years ago, but as this topic had been raised, I wondered if I could get a copy, simply for nostalgic and sentimental reasons - I LOVED that car, but sadly it died beyond my technical and financial ability to repair it.............

That was very interesting, "btc"; does that mean that I can get a copy of the log book for my very first car, a 1938 Morris 12 (NOT purchased by me from new!) even though I no longer own it? Apparently, it is still alive and well - I wish Omegas were as long-lived!

General Car Chat / Re: New Speeding Fines Debate
« on: 06 November 2015, 10:42:59 »
DBG, I recall with some amusement that a county up north a few years ago purchasing several greed cameras, budgeting for the likely revenue from them covering the cost within a year, then sheer profit all the way from then on.
However, they were SO disappointed to find that people were doing what the authority claimed that the cameras were for and actually obeying the speed limit!
Result? A big defecit in their finances and an authority shown up to be mendacious, money-grabbing sons-of-bachelors!

As any thinking driver knows, speed per se is not an issue; but INAPPROPRIATE speed definitely is.
In most areas we are allowed to travel at 30 mph on local roads, but do YOU go at that speed past a school in term time, especially at critical times like morning, lunchtime and leaving times? No, and neither do I.
Before they kindly looked after my licence for me for 6 months, I used to use the capabilities of my 2.6 V6 enthusiastically on the M3 at sparrow-fart in the morning on the clear, dry and virtually empty Motorway on my way to Dorset and felt as safe as houses, not inconveniencing or compromising anybody.
BMW drivers aside, most drivers are sensible (yes, really!) and drive according to the conditions and their comfort zone/capabilities. Please treat we who fit that description like sentient beings and go after those who are unsafe at any speed......
