General Car Chat / Useful website Genuine VX Parts?
« on: 26 September 2014, 14:06:56 »
http://www.vauxhallsuperstore.co.uk/product/Gasket_24436627

Not sure if this has already been mentioned on here before, but this is a Dealer basically getting rid of stock, so it sounds like. They don't cater specifically for Omegas, only the more modern Heathens like Mokkas and Insignias etc... however, thanks to the reusing of parts I've so far found gaskets, clips and a clamp which are below rrp

Hope it helps!

General Car Chat / Carlton and/or Omega seats...
« on: 25 September 2014, 15:16:30 »
VERY obscure question, not specifically a 'help request'... Are Carlton/Senny/CavIII/AstraII seat belt bolts the same thread as Omega/VectraB/AstraIV?

I have found that Carlton are 7/16 X 16 . They're a different part number, but that doesn't mean theyre not interchangeable, of course.

Any takers? After steel spare wheels and tyres, and provisionally the excellent RobG has four - in Bristol. Snag is they do take up a fair bit of room in a boot of course. Aiming for either me in Cleethorpes in North East Lincolnshire ... or Nuneaton / Nottingham as I have a friend who I see fairly regular living/working both those places.

Basically I'm aiming to run the V6 on steelies for a while, until a decent set of rims appear. (also will give my bank balance time to recover) so anyone with one hanging around, please let me know. Ideally local to me (North East Lincolnshire) but the OOF courier service may be able to help with further distance ones :-)

Only real condition is (slightly obviously) it will need a good tyre on it. Thanks in advance chaps and chapesses!  :)

Last night I was getting a new flange welded onto the exhaust cat, and in passing conversation my welding mate mentioned a Celica that recently failed MOT with weird Lambda results. He suspected that by him MIG welding a replacement flange on the exhaust, whilst the lambda sensor was still attached this may have fried, or damaged the sensor in some way. Only at this point do we do a double-take and realise he's just done the tack welds on my exhaust - with the lambda still screwed in.

My gut says that there's no 'circuit' to actually fry it, it should probably be fine. If you actually stuck a cattle prod into the plug, then yeah, that would probably damage it in some way. But I know nothing about the things, really, so happily deferring to your greater knowledge and experience.

General Car Chat / HAHA Id10T Dealers again!
« on: 23 September 2014, 12:41:04 »
Sit ye down comfortably, and I shall tell ye a tale.... Rang up local dealer, after a nut for the V6. The one that joins the cat section of the exhaust to the manifold. (it fell somewhere, can't find the bugger)

Two threads coming out of the manifold, meets flange-to-flange, and two nuts to 'old it all together. Seems simple enough. Apparently ''it's [the EPC] showing bolts'' ugh.
"Well the nut that goes on that thread then, would probably be the one"
"Ohh.... erm.... I don't know. Best bet is to come in."

Yeah, because that's why they invented telephones, so we can drive across the other side of town to be told face to face 'dunno mate'

facepalm. fiiiine.

So... Just looked on an online EPC thing and found the nut in about three minutes flat. (part number 90232266 should anyone ever require one and find this post  :) )

Omega General Help / TD Lift Pump Faulty? ...or not?
« on: 19 September 2014, 11:46:41 »
As this previously appeared in the general chat section I realised it's wandering dangerously close to being a 'help request' (more just looking for a consensus of people saying "yep"tbh) but here is is again...

It started a bit dicky the other day. Then 1st thing yesterday morning took maybe 5 seconds before spluttering into life. After a short run, took approximately ten seconds. On trying to leave work that evening, maybe 15 seconds. I was just about to switch off and give up, at that moment it started.

All this with less than a 1/4 tank full. Straight after work, went and put in £20, so approx 15 litres diesel, and it started immediately.

Came home. Left it until 11pm, so engine was definitely cold. It started  - immediately. Same again this morning. Started immediately.

I'd diagnose life pump on its way out / dead already.

Just wanted final confirmation before I go hunting out a TD lift pump that I can't especially afford right now (trying to mend the V6 and get her back on the road) is there anything else I can rule out?

General Car Chat / Ugh! Is it TD Lift Pump time again?

Just wondered if the chap selling these is on this forum, really? Or.. to put it another way, I'm after a Cat, possibly worth getting two, but 280+ mile round trip just a tad too far for me, so wondering if the OOF carriage service may be employed?

Please don't take this as a request for Cats, as this has already been put as a wanted in the appropriate section.  :)

General Car Chat / First Omega 'Fatality'??
« on: 17 September 2014, 14:13:30 »
Ok, so while at work and being very, very busy, I find myself on 'howmanyleft' and looked up 'Omega CDX'...

Turns out there's only 92 2.5 V6 CDXs left....  :'( BUT in 2012 only 3 CDX Dualfuels and now NONE registered (1 SORN, but there were only 20 on the road in 2001!! And looks like only 20 Dualfuels of this trim level were made)

https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=vauxhall+omega+CDX

And do you own a 2.5TD CDX Manual?? (because there's only 5 left apparently!!)

Non-existent flanges on offside Cat, ok on nearside. Option of having new flanges welded on, of course, but thought I'd check what's in people's garages on here first.

For '96 2.5 V6 Ideally GM, willing to travel. Much thanks in advance!

Just to expand on the title... I am after a gearbox.

I have been volunteered to mend my girlfriend's Polo. The gearbox is knackered, needs another one. It's a 1996 1.9D. Apparently the diesels have a beefier 'box, which I can believe, but although I really don't do bodge jobs etc I would't be averse to fitting a weaker box, as its then going to be re-sold immediately after I've fitted it before anything else breaks 8)

Any help/advice/gearbox is, as ever, greatly appreciated omegalovers. And apologies for bringing vw onto this forum.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / BOSE sound system mix n matching!
« on: 29 October 2010, 02:38:32 »
I know this is fairly well-treaded ground on here, but I just wanted to clarify something about the Bose.

If I plug in a bose amp to the bose resonator speaker from an estate elite, and hook up the lot to a standard loom / head unit in a facelift cdx (the exact model escapes me, not my car! anyway...) what happens?

Do i get piddly sound/no sound or works brilliant from the woofer!?!

I very much doubt the latter somehow  ;)

329
Just a quickie...

got a mate who's complaining his 3.2 Elites colour display has a habit of working 'when it wants to'

Question 1) Is this an irreparably knackered screen, or is there a repair?

Also heard talk of fitting the colour screen to another head unit (eg: '00my CDX, CCR 2006) thus getting a colour screen, is possible.

Question 2) Have I been led up a certain garden path on this one?

Many thanks, in advance people.

Omega General Help / BMW TD wont start! Possible immobiliser issue?
« on: 30 January 2011, 19:48:14 »
Few days ago my mates TD wouldnt start. We knew the fuel pump was a bit dickey, and this was on the cards for this weekend to inspect / change this.

Unfortunately yesterday it wouldnt start.
This, we put down to the tank being below 20litres, so today we investigated / sourced and fitted a new TD fuel pump.
The swirl pot and filter was cleaned. Some crud was evident, but not more than I've seen on pics here before.

The new pump was tested by ourselves before fitting.

Unfortunately the same starting issue remains. It is JUST barely firing for a split second before cutting out. Just the traditional ker-chuff-chuff-ker-chuff-chuff.....
It was turned over for over ten seconds, to ensure fuel had got to the injectors.
Small weep at the fuel filter in the engine bay, so diesel is definitely getting through.

I'm sensing an immobiliser issue. We have only one key. If it were a V6, i'd say crank sensor at fault. Is the diesel just as likely to have the legendary dead crank sensor starting issue?

The battery has been off, has something gone wrong electronics/immobiliser-wise?

Thanks, as ever, in advance!  :y :y
