sport button
« on: 20 June 2013, 23:59:30 »

Hey..

Sport button issues on MV6 2.6. Has been a bit iffy for a while. The other week wouldn't illuminate and did not seem to wont to click when pressed. Tapped side of stick a few times started to click and worked. Has done this few times over a period. But recently has been more reluctant to engage. Seems to work now but have to press hard although does click when pressed. Anyone had issues that can inform me on. Have a good auto specialist but would like to know of likely cause and expense. Seems to be button issue i would guess.

   Many thanks Rod

Loose connection? You can probably take the gearstick apart and maybe a good clean out might sort it...  :-\

I'm sure that someone who has come across this one before will be along soon!  :)

Don't feel the need to use the sport button on the 3.2 but the 2.2 does help when overtaking  :y

Sounds like the switch itself, but probably have to get the meter out to prove.

And gearbox or engine codes stored, as these can prevent Sports mode.

3.2 desperately needs sports mode most of the time.

Ironically, the older 3.0 gearbox ECUs have later software available than the newer 3.2 gearbox ECUs, and rarely need sports mode in my 3.0l

Ah the 3.2 I've got has the 3.0 gearbox that could explain that. Think it's got the latest software also i'll check the paperwork.

It's running V9 on the gearbox, it's very smooth compared to most I've driven  :y

Agreed.  Usually a good kick down is enough :y :y

I use sport mode alot. But mostly for engine breaking to stop the auto running on, so much.

When new the button has a pronounced click. In my use the click is usually silent within a year or so. Where as the previous owner had it since new, so clearly rarely used it.

I don't think its a particularly robust switch on either pre or face lift. So I'm interested in the outcome of this as I'll probably need to replace it at some point, somehow. :)

Never use Sport Button in my 3.2 - Don't really see the point in my driving style, kick down is enough when I want it to go  :)

Clogged up with grease and crap off your fingers
pop the switch out and give it a good clean
