Calling at my local  factor Tuesday I parked beside an immaculate Vauxhall car I could not identify. It was labelled 'Victor'. When were they last made?

A lovely car.  I first travelled in a brand new one back in 1961 which was owned by a naval friend of my fathers.

Compared to the previous cars I had ridden in up to then: A30 in 1958, a Standard 8 during 1958-60, it was to me so advanced and like the American cars I was seeing then on TV!

After that I fell in love with the Vx Creta PA, which was usually in two tone colours and really did seem beautifully 'American'

I pass a really tidy FB on the way to work everyday,must have been restored as way too good to be original

Made a lovely growl, that one. My brother bought one for £50 in the eighties, the seller said it wasn't running properly. I reset the points and it was perfect.

I'm afraid my memory isn't that good. I have no idea which grille my bro's had on it. I just know that it would stay in top gear from very low down and accelerate very rapidly from there.

Apparently there are Victor FB's ....FC's and FD's......... sadly I know SFA which is which.

FE was the better drive though,handled much better although still not great

I bought a FB Victor [a 1964 car iirc]in 1982 I paid £3 for it as it had a blown head gasket-a new gasket was included in the price Fixed that and sold it 2 weeks later for £40,I think it's about the only car I've ever sold on for a profit One of my older brothers had a FD-exactly like the one in Randall and Hopkirk.Didn't the Carlton replace the Victor in the Vx line up?

I had all the series...FB, FC, FD, and finally FE Victors. All were great in every way for me. Column change was a bit iffy until you got used to it. The FE (bright yellow) sported a splendid vinyl roof, until the monkeys at Windsor Safari Park decided they wanted it !!!!!!!!

I liked all the Victors, but the one I always wanted was a VX 490. I was also amazed at the engine in the normal victors that had a slant on it, it looked as if a V8 had been cut down the middle.

It sort of had as the original plan was too build a v8 version too but only the four ever got made

A mate had one, went very well IIRC.

Opel got one didn't they Commodore or Diplomat iirc

 What I always called my first real car was a FB estate. Bought it from the sales depatment where i worked on the tool club scheme, £7 a week for 10 weeks
FD was known as the "Coke" bottle style, first UK car with bonded front and rear windscreens
Always wanted a FE VX 4/90
Banger raced a 2 litre FD estate and a 2.3 FE

Seem to remember reading the VX4/90 was a better car than the Ventora as it was pretty near as quick but handled better due to less weight up front from having a 4 pot motor as opposed to a 6 pot.
