2.5v6 (year 2000) omega estate
« on: 18 May 2018, 17:35:43 »

While driving a few days ago the engine management light came on and off a couple of times. The stored codes are;

16 Knock sensor 1
19 RPM signal (crankshaft sensor)

Now I have had a couple of times in the works car park where the car refused to start for a minute. But apart from that it runs fine.

So knock sensor or crankshaft sensor? Or both?

Thanks

Any recent work?

Both sensor plugs come from the cable tray...

But budget for a new crank sensor. And only buy a genuine sensor from a genuine VX dealer that you genuinely have to walk into ;)

Nothing recent at all.

Will change the crank sensor and go from there.

Thanks

Its prob both TBH, but the crank sensor will strand you at the most inconvenient time and at most inconvenient place, so change that urgently. That will also likely cure the starting issue.

Use a genuine sensor from a reputable supplier (ie, dealer), not ebay, Autovaux, ECP, Amazon etc

One is driver's side near alternator, passenger side I think is slightly up and forward of oil filter.

Not easy to change due to wire run, and DON'T over-tighten them, think it's 15nm, and ensure really clean mounting them.
