Odd request...
« on: 24 May 2018, 16:12:59 »

Just received a text from one of the managers at work asking for my full name and DoB ???

What possible, legitimate reason could they have for asking?

DVSA check, CRB, engraving your long service award gold watch....

Potentially they're doing a data cleanup as part of the new GDPR and want to hold and in defining that data set they have identified some of its missing from your record  :-\

It's to ensure that they send a massive birthday cheque to the correct person.

I am sure my Rwandan wives will gratiously accept it on my behalf ;D

Joking aside, the full text reads, "Can you send me your full name and date of birth please".

No why or where for. Company personnel records are all up to date as have recently been TUPEd. Besides if anything was missing, I would no longer have an airside pass as that has also been transfered to the new company...

Might drop HR an email :-\

Probably best to be on the safe side.

Alternatively you could text back and tell the requester that all your personnel info is up to date and HR are the appropriate custodians of it within the business. They should therefore go through HR to access and store any personal information on employees.

Apparently it's for a training certificate to be issued by an equipment supplier.

Potentially has some value to me as it was a factory supplied course.

Do I a) email HR giving my express permission for this explicit use or b) simply text him :-\

Have I mentioned that I work for idiots... ::)

Was asked to sign a new data form at work, refused, because of the wording on a line, it said "other organisations" I asked what was meant by it, nobody knew, so I said sorry not signing, now got to see operations manager when I go back. Fun and games.

A bloke who lived near me drove a van for the Gas board for around 25 years, until someone found out he didn't have a licence.  ;D

A few years back, College Personnel emailed all staff with a request for details of qualifications, DOB and all the usual data, with the footnote that said "If you have any difficulty in providing/remembering these data, please contact the personnel office, who will provide the information for you!
You couldn't make it up, could you?  ::)
