A/C and Rad fan question 2.2 petrol 2003
« on: 29 May 2018, 20:46:16 »

When I have the A/C on the A/C fan runs and when its off so is the fan.

On the radiator fan mine has always been on from from a cold start engine. Isn't it suppose to be off until the radiator gets hot enough to turn the switch on like most cars?

yes.

so your first job is to check that switch hasn't been bypassed. Then that the switch hasn't failed by checking it with a multimeter. If it has failed, then a new one is a quick, cheap easy fix.

Also bear in mind coolant and ambient temperatures ;)

Is it the top switch or the bottom one that controls the Rad fan?

Anyone got a part number or the correct temp that it turns on and off for the normal and high speeds?

Both fans on the 2.2 run when the air conditioning is on. If anything is running with the air con off and a cold engine then it doesn't sound right.

You should have 2 coolant temperature switches - one with 3 pins and another with 2. The 2 pin one brings on both fans at slow speed (same as with air con running). The 3 pin switch brings on the engine fan at maximum speed. Depending on which symptom you have, you should be able to decide which switch is faulty (or pull the plug on them one at a time). :y
